The Engagement
We are hiring an online tutor for a first-year university student in Toronto, Canada, for the fall term, for one course: General Chemistry, chemical dynamics. Sessions are twice per week, 60 to 90 minutes each, on Google Meet, teaching to the student's actual course outline and exam, not your own syllabus. The course outline and learning objectives will be shared with the selected tutor.
The Course
BIOL 2030 introduces Animal Diversity through discussion of animal (or unicellular eukaryote) lifestyles/cycles, relationships between anatomy/structure and function (internal and external anatomy), and the evolutionary history of unicellular and multicellular eukaryotic organisms. Both living and extinct forms are considered (with an emphasis on living organisms), by surveying across a range of phyla. General topics for consideration include basic classification, lifestyles, lifecycles, habitats, architecture (structure and function), development, and systems involved in locomotion, feeding, digestion, waste elimination, circulation, communication, osmoregulation, gas exchange, reproduction and sensory operations. Upon course completion, student learning outcomes will include being able to: 1. Discuss/define what unicellular eukaryotes and animals are, using specific characteristics that unify different groups of organisms (e.g. unifying features of a Phylum or organismal clade etc.) 2. Discuss the diversity of unicellular eukaryotes and animals in terms of lifestyles, lifecycles, development, structure and habitats 3. Describe, with specific examples, how body form and structure of unicellular eukaryotes and animals relate to function 4. Discuss how organisms that have adopted specific lifestyles (e.g. parasitism, flight etc.) have adapted to maximize success 5. Describe, using examples,
how unicellular eukaryotes and animals can impact human health 6. Describe the evolution of vertebrate animals from aquatic ancestors to terrestrial forms 7. Outline structures and mechanisms that specific (select) unicellular eukaryotes and animals have evolved for locomotion, osmoregulation, feeding and digestion, development/reproduction, and sensing the world around them. In addition to the above learning outcomes (1 – 7), students will also 8. Possess hands-on skills in the following areas: (i) Procedures related to microscopic observation and determination of unicellular eukaryote morphology, size and architecture as well as metazoan size, morphology and architecture (ii) Procedures related to the microscopic observation of animal cells and tissue types (iii) Procedures related to macroscopic observation of animal size, morphology and architecture, including the isolation, identification and arrangement of internal organs, organ-systems and supportive structures
Who We Are Looking For
- You have taught this exact level before: first-year university Biology or NEET / IIT-JEE level Biology
- You teach problems, not lectures: sessions are worked examples from the student's own problem sets
- Fluent English instruction
- Reliable availability in at least one of these IST windows: 5:30 to 8:30 pm, 6:30 to 8:00 am, or 10:30 pm to 12:30 am. Late-night tutors welcome
- Reliable internet, quiet space, and a way to write math legibly on screen: tablet, writing pad, or document camera
Pay and Process
- 300 to 600 INR per hour depending on experience; quote your rate and a monthly package rate for 2 sessions per week
- One PAID trial session on a topic from the actual course outline; the student picks whoever explains best
- Payment monthly by UPI or bank transfer
Pay: ₹400.00 - ₹800.00 per hour
