Job Description – OBG Registrar (Obstetrics & Gynecology)

Position: OBG Registrar
Department: Obstetrics & Gynecology
Reporting To: Senior Consultant / Head of Department (HOD)
Location: Hospital

Role Summary

The OBG Registrar is responsible for providing medical care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period, as well as managing gynecological conditions. The registrar assists consultants in patient care, performs clinical procedures, and ensures high standards of maternal and fetal care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care

- Assess, diagnose, and manage obstetric and gynecological patients.
- Monitor antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal patients.
- Provide emergency care in obstetric and gynecological cases.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and document patient progress.

2. Labour Room & Delivery Management

- Monitor labor and manage normal deliveries.
- Assist consultants in complicated deliveries and cesarean sections.
- Handle obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, etc.
- Monitor fetal wellbeing during labor.

3. Clinical Procedures

- Perform minor gynecological procedures under supervision.
- Assist in major surgeries including C-sections, hysterectomy, and other gynecological surgeries.
- Conduct basic diagnostic procedures.

4. Coordination & Communication

- Coordinate with nursing staff, pediatricians, anesthetists, and other departments.




- Provide counseling to patients and families regarding treatment plans.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.

5. Documentation & Compliance

- Maintain accurate patient records and medical documentation.
- Follow hospital protocols, clinical guidelines, and infection control practices.
- Ensure compliance with medical ethics and hospital policies.

6. Training & Academic Activities

- Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, and medical audits.
- Assist in training junior doctors, interns, and nursing staff when required.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in obstetrics and gynecology.

Qualifications

- MBBS with MS in Obstetrics & Gynecology or equivalent.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.

Experience

- 1–3 years of experience in Obstetrics & Gynecology preferred.
- Experience in managing labor room and obstetric emergencies is an advantage.
