Biomedical Manager for a 150-bed multi-specialty hospital, Virudhunagar
Overview
Aruna Children Hospital Group (‘Aruna Hospital’) is embarking on an exciting venture—an upcoming 150-bedded state-of-the-art multi-specialty hospital on the Virudhunagar–Sattur Highway, Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Our goal is to deliver world-class treatment tailored to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Virudhunagar region.
Spanning approximately 1 lakh sq. ft across the hospital and hostel blocks, Aruna Hospital is envisioned as a Centre of Excellence for key specialities such as trauma care, cardiac care, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, dialysis and more.
Location: Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu (on-site)
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Commissioning and Equipment Readiness
- Coordinate with architecture, civil, MEP and project teams to ensure department-wise site readiness, including power/UPS, medical gases, HVAC, water, earthing, shielding, floor loading, and equipment movement.
- Plan and coordinate phased equipment delivery, installation and commissioning.
- Inspect equipment on receipt, verify specifications and documentation, and establish the biomedical asset register covering tagging, warranties, AMC/CMC and equipment history.
Testing, Commissioning and Go-Live
- Supervise installation and conduct functional, performance, electrical safety, calibration and acceptance testing in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable standards.
- Coordinate testing and validation of critical utilities and specialised equipment, including medical gases, UPS, imaging and radiation-emitting equipment, with engineering and MEP teams.
- Manage commissioning documentation, snag closure, handover, warranty records, and statutory/accreditation requirements including NABH and AERB.
- Coordinate vendor training and competency sign-off for clinical staff, and develop equipment SOPs, safety protocols and operating checklists.
- Support go-live planning, mock drills, equipment availability,
and standby/backup arrangements for critical clinical services.
Biomedical Operations and Maintenance
- Establish and manage preventive maintenance, calibration and breakdown maintenance programmes, including AMC/CMC, warranty tracking, vendor coordination and critical spares.
- Monitor equipment uptime, response times, maintenance quality and costs, with specific focus on critical equipment across ICU, OT, dialysis, cath lab, imaging, emergency, and neonatal services.
- Lead the biomedical engineering team, including staffing, duty rosters, technical training and competency development.
- Manage the biomedical budget, repair-versus-replace decisions, equipment condemnation/disposal, vendor performance and technology upgrades.
- Maintain equipment maintenance records and ensure compliance with NABH, AERB and other applicable regulatory requirements, including incident reporting, safety alerts, recalls, audits and management reporting.
Key Skills
- Verbal and written communication skills in English and verbal skills in Tamil
- Hands-on knowledge of installation, testing and commissioning of hospital equipment, including critical care, OT, dialysis, imaging and neonatal equipment
- Knowledge of medical equipment safety and quality standards
- Strong vendor management and coordination skills with OEMs, service vendors and MEP teams
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from a well reputed university
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in biomedical engineering, including 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in a 150+ bedded multi-specialty hospital.
- Hands-on experience in the installation, testing and commissioning of medical equipment for a current hospital or a major expansion
