About the Role:

FOXO is building a personalized health platform that brings together health data, biomarkers, clinical insights, nutrition, supplements, lifestyle interventions, and ongoing member progress.

As an SDE-3 at FOXO, you will own critical backend systems that power the member experience from onboarding and health data to lab results, personalized protocols, progress tracking, and notifications.

This is a high-ownership engineering role. You will work with the Lead Backend Engineer, Product, Clinical, and Operations teams, while independently driving systems from architecture → development → deployment → production.

You won't just implement tickets. You'll make technical decisions, improve system reliability, review code, and help shape engineering practices as the company scales.

What We're Looking For:

- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend experience in production systems.
- Robust Python fundamentals and experience writing clean, maintainable, testable code.
- Strong FastAPI or similar backend framework experience.
- Solid understanding of async programming, concurrency, background processing, and runtime behaviour.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills across schema design, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and migrations.
- Strong REST API design experience, including versioning, backward compatibility, pagination, and error handling.
- Experience designing and operating production systems, not just building features locally.
- Strong understanding of testing, monitoring, logging,



and production debugging.
- Ability to take an ambiguous problem and turn it into a practical technical solution.
- Experience owning a feature or system through design → development → deployment → production support.

For Fullstack Candidates:

- Production experience with Next.js / React and TypeScript.
- Comfortable building data-heavy interfaces and internal tools.
- Able to work effectively across backend and frontend when required.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

- You've owned a backend system end-to-end in a startup or high-growth environment.
- You've built products involving health, fintech, security, or other sensitive/regulated data.
- You've worked on systems where correctness, reliability, and data integrity matter.
- You've handled production incidents and improved systems based on what you learned.
- You've worked with LLM APIs in production and understand reliability, latency, token costs, structured outputs, and failure modes.
- You think about edge cases, race conditions, retries, idempotency, and observability before they become problems.
- You improve systems and engineering practices beyond your immediate area of ownership.
- You ask “why?” before “how?” and care about the member experience behind the technology.
