1. Job Summary
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance is responsible for planning and executing preventive, predictive, breakdown, and condition-based maintenance activities for plant mechanical equipment and utilities. The role ensures equipment reliability, minimum downtime, safe maintenance practices, timely completion of maintenance jobs, and effective implementation of maintenance systems.
The position also supports mechanical projects, equipment installation and commissioning, RCA/CAPA, ERP maintenance activities, spare management, statutory compliance, and coordination with contractors and service providers.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Mechanical Maintenance
- Execute preventive, predictive, condition-based, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure reliable operation of process and utility equipment.
- Carry out troubleshooting and rectification of mechanical equipment breakdowns.
- Monitor equipment condition and identify potential failures.
- Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance schedules.
- Monitor pumps, agitators, reactors, dryers, gearboxes, compressors, piping, valves, and other mechanical equipment.
- Support maintenance activities for boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and other utility equipment.
- Ensure proper lubrication, alignment, inspection, and condition monitoring of rotating equipment.
- Maintain equipment availability and minimize unplanned downtime.
B. Breakdown Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major and repeated equipment failures.
- Prepare and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Identify recurring maintenance problems and recommend permanent solutions.
- Support reliability improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor MTBF, MTTR, breakdown frequency, and equipment availability.
C. Preventive Maintenance & Planning
- Prepare and execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance plans.
- Coordinate with Production for equipment shutdowns and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure preventive maintenance activities are completed within the defined schedule.
- Maintain maintenance checklists and inspection records.
- Follow up on pending maintenance jobs and ensure timely closure.
D. Projects & Plant Modification
- Support mechanical projects, plant modifications, equipment installation, and expansion activities.
- Prepare/review mechanical drawings, P&IDs;, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Support preparation of project estimates and material requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, consultants, and service providers.
- Supervise erection, installation, testing, trial runs, and commissioning of equipment.
- Ensure project activities are completed safely and within the approved schedule.
- Support preparation of project documentation and equipment handover records.
E. Maintenance Documentation & ERP
- Maintain accurate equipment history and maintenance records.
- Ensure timely entry of maintenance activities in the ERP system.
- Update preventive maintenance schedules and work orders in ERP.
- Maintain breakdown reports, inspection records, checklists, and job completion records.
- Provide required maintenance data and reports to the Manager – Mechanical.
F. Spare Parts & Inventory
- Identify critical mechanical spare parts.
- Prepare spare requirements based on equipment criticality and maintenance history.
- Coordinate with Stores and Purchase for timely availability of critical spares.
- Maintain minimum stock levels for critical maintenance items.
- Suggest standardization and cost-effective alternatives for spare parts.
G. Contractor & Vendor Management
- Coordinate with maintenance contractors and external service providers.
- Supervise outsourced mechanical maintenance activities.
- Ensure quality and timely completion of contractor jobs.
- Verify work completion against agreed technical requirements.
- Ensure contractors follow plant safety rules and Permit-to-Work requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment inspection, servicing, troubleshooting, and technical support.
H. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with EHS requirements.
- Follow Permit-to-Work, LOTO, hot work, confined space, work-at-height, and other applicable safety procedures.
- Ensure proper PPE and safe working practices during maintenance activities.
- Support statutory inspections and maintenance-related compliance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with approved SOPs, IMS, and applicable ISO requirements.
- Report unsafe conditions and maintenance-related risks to the Manager – Mechanical/EHS.
I. Equipment & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate equipment identification and technical records.
- Maintain equipment history and maintenance records.
- Support asset tagging, commissioning/put-to-use records, modification records, and disposal/scrapping documentation.
- Provide technical information required for asset management and Finance/Accounts records.
J. Team Coordination & Development
- Guide Fitters, Apprentices, and maintenance technicians during maintenance activities.
- Allocate daily maintenance jobs as assigned by the Manager – Mechanical.
- Monitor work quality and safe execution by maintenance personnel.
- Provide on-job technical guidance and training to junior maintenance personnel.
- Support development of backup personnel for critical maintenance activities.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
