Job Description: Head – Resin R&D; and Quality Control

Role Summary

The Head of Resin R&D; and QC leads new resin product development, improvement of existing formulations, and all quality control activities from raw material to finished goods. The role ensures products meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and cost targets, while building a strong technical team and supporting sales with application expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Development

- Lead development of new resins (e.g., alkyd, polyester, acrylic, epoxy, PU, or others as relevant) based on market needs and customer requirements.
- Improve existing formulations for performance, stability, and cost reduction, including qualifying alternate raw materials and suppliers.
- Scale up products from lab to pilot to plant batches, working closely with Production to ensure smooth technology transfer.
- Prepare and maintain formulation records, process sheets, and technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Track industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes (e.g., low-VOC, eco-friendly and bio-based resins).
- Provide technical support to Sales and customers, including sample development, trials at customer sites, and complaint resolution.

Quality Control

- Set up and manage QC systems for incoming raw materials, in-process checks, and finished goods release.
- Define specifications and test methods for key parameters such as viscosity, acid value, solids content, colour, gel time, OH value, and molecular weight.
- Ensure batch-to-batch consistency and approve or reject batches based on test results.
- Investigate customer complaints and non-conformities using root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).




- Maintain calibration and upkeep of lab instruments (viscometers, GPC, FTIR, moisture analyser, etc.).
- Lead compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BIS, and customer or third-party audits, and support NABL accreditation where applicable.

Team & Lab Management

- Lead, train, and evaluate the R&D; and QC team of chemists and lab assistants.
- Manage the department budget, lab infrastructure, and chemical inventory.
- Enforce lab safety practices, proper chemical handling, and waste disposal norms.
- Prepare regular MIS reports on quality performance, development projects, and cost savings for management.

Qualifications & Experience

- Education: M.Sc. / M.Tech in Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering. A Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience: 12–15 years in the resin, paints, coatings, adhesives, or composites industry, with at least 4–5 years in a leadership role heading R&D; and/or QC.
- Proven track record of successfully commercialising new resin products.
- Hands-on knowledge of polymerisation processes, reactor operations, and scale-up.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems and statistical tools (SPC, 7 QC tools).

Key Skills

Strong technical and analytical ability, problem-solving under production pressure, clear communication with customers and cross-functional teams, team leadership and mentoring, and good documentation discipline. Familiarity with ERP systems (such as SAP) is an advantage.

Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹85,000.00 per month
