Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist with strong expertise in R programming, statistical modeling, and algorithm development. The role involves taking ownership of existing analytical algorithms, understanding and validating their statistical foundations, improving model performance, and developing new predictive capabilities.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with complex statistical models, reverse-engineering existing R code, identifying opportunities for optimization, and converting analytical solutions into reliable, production-ready implementations.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze and reverse-engineer existing statistical models and algorithms developed in R.
- Understand model logic, statistical assumptions, data dependencies, and existing implementation patterns.
- Conduct statistical testing and model validation to identify opportunities for improving accuracy, performance, and efficiency.
- Enhance existing algorithms and analytical methodologies to support evolving business requirements.
- Perform feature engineering and develop new predictive/statistical models from scratch.
- Refactor existing R code into maintainable, scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Apply coding standards, version control, documentation, automated testing, and software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering teams on data pipelines, model deployment,



and productionization.
- Translate complex statistical findings into clear business insights for non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
- Mentor junior Data Scientists and Analysts and contribute to technical best practices.

Required Background

- 5–6+ years of professional experience in Data Science, Statistical Modeling, Quantitative Research, or a related field.
- Advanced/expert-level R programming experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with tidyverse, data.table, and statistical/modeling packages in R.
- Robust practical knowledge of statistical modeling, including areas such as:
- Hypothesis testing
- Linear and logistic regression
- Time-series analysis
- Mixed-effects models
- Bayesian methods
- Experience auditing or understanding existing statistical codebases and improving algorithms.
- Demonstrated ability to identify model/code bottlenecks and implement measurable improvements.
- Strong documentation and communication skills, including the ability to explain statistical concepts to business and senior stakeholders.
- Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline.

Good to Have

- R API development using Plumber.
- R Shiny dashboard development.
- Docker/containerization of R applications.
- Experience deploying analytical models in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Working knowledge of Python, particularly pandas/scikit-learn.
- SQL experience.
- Banking or Financial Services domain experience.
