- Supervise and coordinate nursing services across wards, ICUs, OT, emergency, OPD, and other clinical areas.
- Manage nursing staff deployment, duty rosters, shifts, leave, attendance, and staffing requirements.
- Ensure adequate nurse-to-patient staffing and appropriate allocation of nursing personnel.
- Monitor the quality and safety of patient care delivered by nursing staff.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, protocols, and standards.
- Conduct regular rounds and assess nursing practices, documentation, infection-control measures, and patient-care standards.
- Coordinate with doctors, department heads, administration, HR, pharmacy, laboratory, and other hospital departments.
- Ensure proper maintenance of nursing records, patient documentation, registers, and reports.
- Monitor compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
- Identify training and development needs and organize orientation, continuing education, and competency programs for nursing staff.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, disciplinary processes, and professional development of nursing personnel.
- Investigate patient complaints, adverse events, medication errors, and nursing-related incidents and initiate corrective actions.
- Ensure availability and appropriate use of nursing equipment, supplies, medications, and emergency resources.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators and prepare periodic reports for hospital management.
- Participate in hospital accreditation and regulatory compliance activities, such as NABH requirements where applicable.
- Promote patient safety, ethical nursing practice, confidentiality, and skilled conduct.
- Assist hospital management during emergencies, disasters, mass-casualty situations, and other critical events.
- Maintain effective communication with patients and their families regarding nursing-related concerns.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, biomedical-waste management, and infection-control policies.
- Conduct nursing meetings and communicate organizational policies and operational changes to nursing staff.
Qualifications
Typically:
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing or M.Sc. Nursing
- Valid nursing registration with the relevant nursing council.
- Additional qualifications in Nursing Administration / Hospital Administration may be preferred.
