Job Description
KONE is a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, making peoples journeys safe, convenient, and reliable with smart and sustainable People Flow®. In a world where cities are constantly evolving and more and more people choose to live in them, we at KONE stand with one clear aim: to shape the future of cities. We make urban life more vibrant and livable. And we do it by enabling safe, sustainable, and effortless people flow for all. We help cities leave a positive mark on the planet - for the next century and beyond. We shape the future of cities.
KONE Technology and Innovation Unit (KTI) is where the magic happens at KONE. It's where we combine the physical world – escalators and elevators – with smart and connected digital systems. We are changing and improving the way billions of people move within buildings every day. We are on a mission to expand and develop new digital solutions that are based on emerging technologies.
KONE R&D; brings together top talent from different disciplines into an industry-leading product and technology organization. We thrive in solving complex customer challenges, connecting legacy with the latest technologies across hardware and software engineering. In fact, roughly half of our R&D; roles are in software. Agile ways of working mean that we are better able to meet our customers’ rapidly evolving needs for speed and innovation, in a global environment.
R&D; unit in KTI is responsible for developing digital services at KONE. It’s the development engine for our Digital Services such as KONE 24/7 Connected Services, Office Flow and Partnership Ecosystem. Our common goal at KONE is to keep the end users safe and people flow uninterrupted. KONE moves 2 billion people every day and that means our services can really make cities better places to live

Company:
Did you know KONE moves two billion people every day? As a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, we employ over 60,000 driven professionals in more than 60 countries worldwide joined together by a shared purpose, to shape the future of cities.
Why this role?
- Develop, validate, and maintain multidomain simulation models and tools for elevator systems within R&D;, enabling virtual prototyping, performance optimization, and support for product, hardware, and software/service development
What will you be doing?
- Develop and maintain systemlevel and componentlevel simulation models for elevator systems (mechanical, electrical, control, and passenger traffic) using industrystandard tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, Amesim or equivalent).
- Work with Product R&D; to simulate new elevator concepts, group control strategies, building traffic scenarios, and ride comfort to support architecture decisions before prototyping.
- Collaborate with Hardware R&D; to model critical components (machines, doors, brakes, ropes, guide rails, frames, structures) and perform studies on dynamics, vibration, noise, fatigue, and thermal behavior.
- Partner with Software/Service R&D; to build and maintain simulation and digital twin environments that reflect real elevator installations for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and service decision support.
- Create parameterized and reusable simulation models that allow efficient exploration of design variants, operating conditions, building types, and load profiles across product families.
- Plan and execute simulation studies to answer specific engineering questions related to safety margins, energy usage, ride comfort, stress/strain, thermal effects, and system response to faults or abnormal conditions.
- Calibrate and validate models using testbench data, lab results, commissioning data, and field measurements; refine models based on discrepancies and feedback from test and service teams.
- Develop highfidelity and reducedorder models for multiple use cases (concept evaluation, control tuning, system sizing, thermal optimization, fatigue studies).
- Support development and tuning of control algorithms (motion control, door control, group control) by providing simulation environments for concept evaluation, SIL/HIL testing, and parameter optimization.
- Document models, assumptions, limitations, and results clearly, and create usage guidelines and training material for other R&D; engineers.
Required Skills:
- Strong handson experience with one or more system simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica/Dymola, Amesim or similar multiphysics environments).
- Solid understanding of dynamics, vibrations, control systems,
and basic structural and thermal analysis for electromechanical systems.
- Strength analysis would be a must have quality and experience with Ansys mechanical.
- Experience with Ansys LS DYNA / Altair Radios for dynamic mechanical simulations is an additional advantage
- Proven experience in building, calibrating, and validating models with experimental or field data.
- Experience with version control systems (Git), CI/CD for models, and modular code/model architecture.
- Ability to script and automate simulation workflows (e.g., using MATLAB, Python, or similar) for parameter sweeps, sensitivity analysis, and design optimization.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate questions from product, hardware, and service stakeholders into wellstructured simulation studies.
Are you the one?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- 7-10 years of experience in system simulation/modelling in industrial, transportation, machinery, or similar domains.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, excellent communication, and comfort working in global, crossfunctional R&D; environments.
- Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and structured documentation habits. Ability to create explicit visualizations, dashboards, or reports to communicate simulation insights.
What do we offer?
- Development and growth opportunities within a global organization.
- Warm and friendly international working environment
- Being part of an industry leader in sustainability.
