Position: Yocto Migration Engineer (CE60ST RM 4465)
Scope
Migration of a heterogeneous multi-architecture embedded ecosystem from Yocto Project 5.0 (Scarthgap) to Yocto Project 6.0 (Wrynose) LTS, integrating SCP (ARM Cortex-M55), RISC-V processors, and flexible 32-bit/64-bit target platform selection via BitBake Multi-Config (multiconfig) and multilib.
Key Responsibilities &
- Requirements
- Yocto v5.0 to v6.0 (Wrynose) LTS Migration:
- Migrate large-scale custom BSPs, distros, and multi-architecture layers from Scarthgap to Wrynose.
- Address upstream breaking changes including systemd default migration, explicit pkgconfig exposure rules, and updated files/wic/ kickstart pathing.
- Open-Source Recipe Compliance:
- Write and refactor recipes adhering strictly to OpenEmbedded coding standards (proper SPDX licensing, checksum verification, Upstream-Status patch tracking, and standard class inheritance).
- BitBake Multi-Config Architecture:
- Design and maintain parallel build pipelines using BitBake’s multiconfig framework (BBMULTICONFIG) to build distinct target environments from a single invocation.
- Manage cross-target artifact piping and firmware packaging dependencies using mcdepends.
- Heterogeneous Target &
- Coprocessor Integration:
- SCP Firmware (ARM Cortex-M55): Build, package, and integrate System Control Processor (SCP) firmware images using baremetal/newlib toolchains.
- RISC-V Processors: Configure and build bear metal firmware for RISC-V application and co-processing targets.
- Flexible 32-bit / 64-bit Target Platform Support:
- Architect distro configurations that allow seamless switching or simultaneous compilation of either 32-bit or 64-bit binaries for the primary application target, alongside multilib support to execute legacy 32-bit user-space applications on 64-bit OS kernels where required.
- Build Performance Optimization &
- Target Validation:
- Tune BitBake concurrency, shared state (SSTATE_MIRROR) caching infrastructures, and prune unused feature sets to minimize CI/CD build times.
- Validate compiled binaries, bootloaders (U-Boot/TF-A/OP-TEE), and firmware on target hardware
- Documentation &
- Enablement:
- Author transparent, developer-facing READMEs and internal guidelines for onboarding team members, adding new machine definitions, and writing compliant recipes.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Experience: 6+ years of Embedded Linux engineering with deep, hands-on expertise across ARM (Cortex-A, Cortex-M55/SCP), RISC-V, and multi-lib environments.
- Yocto Expertise: Advanced command over BitBake multi-config (multiconfig), multilib configurations, toolchain management (glibc/musl/newlib), and major-version Yocto migrations.
