Key Responsibilities
- Chart Review: Analyze inpatient medical records to extract clinical data.
- Code Assignment: Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.
- DRG Grouping: Determine the correct Medicare/Payer Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) to dictate hospital reimbursement.
- Physician Queries: Clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation with healthcare providers.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high accuracy rates (typically >97%) and comply with HIPAA and official coding guidelines
Preferred candidate profile
- Experience: 1 to 5+ years of dedicated inpatient (IP-DRG) medical coding experience.
- Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Skilled Coder (CPC), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) from AHIMA or AAPC is strongly preferred or mandatory for many roles.
