Why this role matters

Within the Data & AI Office, we shape and steer BASF’s Data & AI Governance Framework. Your role is focused on translating the data strategy into an enterprise-wide governance framework that enables efficient, secure and compliant use of data. Our goal is to make data easy to find, easy to use and safe – while supporting business value, innovation and trusted AI use cases.

You play a key part in designing federated data governance: governance principles, decision rights and standards are coordinated centrally but implemented close to the business. You will help define how data governance is embedded into business and technology decisions without slowing teams down.

Your responsibilities

You will facilitate and operationalize data governance across BASF, with a solid focus on strategic framework design, enterprise alignment and value creation:

- Coordinate data governance priorities and align decisions-makers across business, IT and corporate functions.
- Translate BASF’s data strategy and principles into scalable governance policies, standards and decision frameworks
- Design and continuously improve the federated governance operating model, including data roles, accountabilities and decision rights.
- Develop governance processes, frameworks and reusable guidance that balance enterprise consistency with business needs
- Establish transparency on governance maturity,



strategic risks, dependencies and improvement priorities
- Define and assess data governance requirements for AI use cases, including data quality, provenance, ownership and appropriate controls
- Identify, assess, and manage data-related risks, especially for AI use cases
- Act as strategic connector and trusted advisor between business, IT, security, compliance and AI stakeholders

What you bring

- Degree in business administration, science, IT or a comparable qualification
- Several years of professional experience in designing or steering enterprise data governance
- Proven experience developing governance frameworks, operating models, policies, standards or decision rights in complex organizations
- Understanding of data governance requirements for AI use cases, data products and emerging data-driven business models
- Strategic and pragmatic working style, with the ability to translate enterprise objectives into actionable governance models
- Practical experience with governance topics, ideally in complex or federated organizations
- Structured and pragmatic working style in complex environments
- Initial experience in project or change initiatives is an advantage
- Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders across business, IT and corporate functions
- Strong user and value orientation – you focus on scalable governance outcome, not tooling or administrative processes
