Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Quality Control Inspector with 10+ years of experience in mechanical manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, and inspection environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong Mechanical Engineering background and hands-on experience inspecting complete mechanical assemblies and finished systems .
The candidate will be responsible for verifying that fabricated components, welded structures, mechanical assemblies, and completed systems meet engineering drawings, specifications, dimensional tolerances, quality standards, and customer requirements . This role requires strong expertise in drawing interpretation, GD&T;, dimensional inspection, welding/fabrication inspection, assembly verification, documentation, and final acceptance inspection .
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality inspection of complete mechanical assemblies, fabricated structures, and finished systems .
- Inspect components and assemblies against engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, work instructions, and customer requirements .
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T;, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication drawings .
- Perform dimensional inspection using calipers, micrometers, gauges, height gauges, CMM, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Inspect fabricated and welded components for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, weld quality, fit-up, alignment, and conformance to specifications.
- Verify welding, fabrication, machining, assembly, fit, form, and function of mechanical systems.
- Perform in-process, final, and first-article inspections as required.
- Verify that completed assemblies are properly assembled according to drawings, BOMs, specifications, and assembly procedures.
- Conduct final inspection and acceptance testing of completed mechanical systems.
- Identify and document defects, deviations, non-conformances,
and workmanship issues .
- Generate and maintain inspection reports, NCRs, quality records, checklists, test reports, and final acceptance documentation .
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and support corrective/preventive actions for recurring quality issues.
- Support 8D, CAPA, NCR, FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA, and PPAP activities as applicable.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Welding, Fabrication, Assembly, Production, and Supplier Quality teams to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in FAT/SAT, functional testing, system validation, and final acceptance inspections .
- Verify materials, components, fabrication processes, and assemblies meet specified quality requirements.
- Support supplier/incoming inspection activities when required.
- Participate in design and manufacturing reviews and identify potential quality, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturability issues .
- Maintain traceability and ensure inspection documentation is complete and accurate.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework, and quality escapes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ISO, ASME, ANSI, AWS, and customer-specific quality requirements , as applicable.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of Quality Control / Quality Inspection / Quality Engineering experience in mechanical manufacturing, fabrication, or equipment environments.
- Strong Mechanical Engineering background.
- Hands-on experience inspecting complete mechanical assemblies and finished systems .
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, specifications, and GD&T; .
- Strong experience with dimensional inspection and measurement tools .
- Experience with fabrication, welding, machining, and mechanical assembly inspection .
- Knowledge of weld inspection, weld symbols, fit-up, alignment, and fabrication quality requirements .
- Experience identifying and documenting non-conformances and defects .
- Knowledge of RCA, 8D, CAPA, NCR, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and PPAP .
- Ability to perform final inspection and acceptance of complete systems .
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Welding, and Assembly teams.
- Robust quality documentation and reporting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large, complex mechanical equipment or systems .
- Experience in fabrication/manufacturing facilities .
- Experience with FAT/SAT and final system acceptance testing .
- Experience with CMM and advanced metrology equipment .
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWS or other applicable industry standards.
- Experience with supplier quality and incoming inspection .
- Experience performing inspections throughout fabrication → welding → machining → assembly → final system testing .
