Purpose of the Role
The role is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted availability of maintenance spares, repair and service support for manufacturing and utility equipment across the plant. The incumbent will drive spare parts planning, inventory optimization, vendor development, techno-commercial negotiations, repair management, import substitution, cost reduction initiatives, and breakdown support while ensuring compliance with statutory and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Spares Planning, Procurement & Inventory Management
- Prepare and manage annual budgets for machinery spares across manufacturing and utility functions.
- Plan and allocate budgets based on historical consumption, criticality, and future maintenance requirements.
- Collaborate closely with maintenance teams to evaluate and process spare part requirements.
- Standardize and optimize spare inventories through part rationalization and technical evaluation.
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain optimum Min-Max stock levels for critical and high-value spares.
- Ensure timely procurement and availability of spares to support preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Coordinate urgent material requirements during equipment breakdowns and arrange service engineer support when required.
- Manage repairs, refurbishment, and calibration requirements for maintenance equipment and spares.
- Facilitate inter-plant material transfers through STOs (Stock Transfer Orders).

- Manage RFx activities and support annual price settlement processes in coordination with purchasing teams.
- Create and interpret engineering drawings for locally developed spare parts.
- Track budget utilization and highlight deviations with corrective recommendations.
2. New Projects & Capacity Expansion Support
- Support greenfield, brownfield, and expansion projects by planning spare part requirements during project commissioning.
- Review equipment layouts, Bills of Material (BOMs), and OEM recommendations.

- Obtain quotations and evaluate supplier proposals.
- Generate part numbers and coordinate procurement activities for project-related requirements.
- Ensure timely procurement and availability of project spares before production ramp-up.
- Provide technical inputs related to mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems of manufacturing equipment.
3. Vendor Development & Technical Support
- Develop and maintain a solid supplier network for maintenance spares and repair services.
- Identify alternate suppliers to minimize procurement risks and improve supply continuity.
- Work closely with OEMs on spare availability, lifecycle management, obsolescence planning, and technical upgrades.
- Support maintenance teams in root cause analysis of recurring breakdowns and recommend sustainable solutions.
4. Compliance, Statutory Requirements & Audits
- Ensure procurement and utilization of materials in compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Support statutory compliance related to weights & measures and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain documentation related to calibration, equipment compliance, statutory records, and safety requirements.
- Participate in internal, external, customer, and certification audits.
- Track and close audit observations and non-conformities within defined timelines.
5. Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization
- Lead Kaizen, Value Engineering, and Productivity Improvement initiatives.
- Drive inventory reduction without compromising plant uptime.
- Analyze spare consumption patterns and maintenance data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability, spare availability, and maintenance effectiveness.

- Purchase Team - Procurement status, supplier coordination, RFx activities, and expediting critical requirements.
- Finance Team - Budget management, invoice clearances, and financial compliance.
- Technical Services & Manufacturing Teams - Material handling compliance and process improvement initiatives.

- OEMs & Machine Manufacturers - Technical support, obsolescence management, upgrades, and critical spare sourcing.
- Suppliers & Service Providers - Spare procurement, equipment servicing, repairs, and breakdown support.
- Government & Regulatory Authorities - Statutory approvals, compliance requirements, and license renewals.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
Experience
- 05-15 years of experience in Manufacturing, Automotive, Auto Ancillary, Engineering, or Industrial Operations.
Functional Expertise
- Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment, maintenance systems, and spare parts management.
- Hands-on exposure to machine components, maintenance practices, and industrial utilities.
- Experience in maintenance procurement, inventory control, supplier management, and cost optimization.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings, material selection, heat treatment processes, and dimensional systems.
- Proficiency in SAP MM and PM modules.
- Experience in managing critical breakdowns and maintenance support activities.
