ROLE PURPOSE

RightWalk Foundation's core mission involves driving Equity, Inclusion & Social Justice by co-shaping public policies and translating them into action. We practice a Systems Thinking approach to institutional reform by partnering with system leadership, lawmakers, and communities, and have driven key policy reforms related to RTE 12.1(c) and Apprenticeship, enabling over 7.8 lakh EWS and disadvantaged children to access quality education and 89,000 vulnerable youth to find apprenticeship opportunities in the last 5–8 years.

RWF has grown significantly in the past few years, both internally and externally, and is now managing a growing base of domestic and international funding. We are a young organisation that takes financial process, compliance, and governance seriously, and we're looking for a Senior Manager – Finance to own that discipline end to end — from statutory and donor compliance to audit readiness, treasury management, and board-facing financial reporting.

Reporting to the Founder & CEO, this role is responsible for building the financial rigour RWF needs to scale responsibly, and for giving leadership the financial clarity to make sound strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will bring deep financial awareness, solid numeracy skills, and a keen interest in the organisation's growth and efficiency, along with outstanding communication and report-writing skills, superb technical ability, and articulate negotiation skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Financial Strategy & Planning

- Own the annual budgeting process and multi-year financial planning, aligning financial targets with organisational and programme strategy.
- Develop and maintain rolling financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and scenario models to inform leadership decision-making.
- Provide financial insight and analysis that directly shapes organisational strategy, not just reports on past performance.

1. Statutory & Donor Compliance

- Own end-to-end statutory compliance — FCRA, TDS, GST, PF/ESI, and other regulatory filings applicable to a nonprofit receiving domestic and foreign funding.

- Ensure donor-fund utilisation is tracked and reported in line with individual grant agreements, and that utilisation certificates and donor financial reports are accurate and on time.
- Design and enforce financial policies and procedures that meet both nonprofit regulatory requirements and donor due-diligence standards.

1. Audit & Risk Management

- Own the statutory audit process end to end, including coordination with external auditors, and lead internal audits and donor audits as required.
- Identify financial and compliance risks proactively, and put controls in place before they become findings.
- Maintain a clean, audit-ready books-of-accounts discipline throughout the year, not just at year-end.

1. Treasury, Banking & Financial Operations

- Manage banking relationships, treasury operations, and fund flows to ensure liquidity for programme delivery.
- Oversee accounts payable/receivable, project invoicing, and the employee expense review process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing process, and ensure financial statements are complete, accurate, and timely.

1. Reporting & Governance

- Own the preparation of financial reports and analysis for the Founder & CEO, Board, and Audit Committee.
- Ensure internal and external financial reporting — monthly, quarterly, and annual — meets both organisational and donor governance standards.
- Advise leadership on financial decision-making, systems development, and process improvement.

1. Team Leadership & Systems

- Lead and build capacity within the finance team, with existing finance staff reporting into this role.
- Own the organisation's accounting systems and financial tools, driving adoption of stronger processes as RWF scales.
- Work closely with programme and fundraising teams to ensure financial management supports, rather than slows down, delivery.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

- Education: CA / CMA / MBA (Finance)

or an equivalent professional qualification in Finance or Accounting.
- Experience: 5–10 years of progressive finance management experience, including a minimum of 2 years of audit experience; prior experience in the nonprofit/development sector with FCRA and donor-funded accounting is strongly preferred.
- Deep working knowledge of statutory compliance — FCRA, TDS, GST, and other regulatory requirements applicable to Indian nonprofits.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate numbers into decisions for non-finance leadership.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to the Founder & CEO and the Board.
- Able to work independently and proactively, owning outcomes with little supervision.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to set priorities, plan timelines, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Tally) and comfortable working with donor fund-tracking and reporting tools.
- Team leadership experience, with the ability to build and mentor a finance function as the organisation scales.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a “get-it-done” attitude, suited to a small-organisation setting where teamwork and resourcefulness are highly valued.
- Strong alignment with RWF's mission of driving Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice in building stronger education ecosystems in India.
- Results-focused with a strong sense of ownership; enjoys working under pressure, flexible, highly organised, and able to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated and a good team player, open to listening, learning, and contributing beyond the confines of this role.

COMPENSATION

We offer a competitive salary package matching relevant experience, fitment, and the candidate's existing compensation, at par with the development sector.

RWF is an equal opportunity employer with social inclusion as a core value. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, caste, colour, creed, religious beliefs, appearance, or socio-economic background, and we actively encourage diversity in the workplace.
