Description

We are looking for an experienced BTMS Manager to lead the design, development, integration, validation, and commissioning of Battery Thermal Management Systems for BESS applications. The role will be responsible for ensuring optimum battery operating temperature, thermal uniformity, system efficiency, reliability, and safety across battery racks/containers.

Key Responsibilities 1. BTMS Engineering & Design

- Lead the design and development of thermal management solutions for BESS battery packs, racks, and containers.
- Define BTMS architecture based on battery chemistry, cell format, operating conditions, and system requirements.
- Evaluate and develop air-cooling, liquid-cooling, HVAC and hybrid thermal management systems.
- Perform thermal load calculations, heat dissipation analysis, cooling capacity calculations and temperature uniformity studies.
- Review thermal design parameters such as coolant flow rate, pressure drop, heat exchanger capacity, fan/pump selection and thermal interface requirements.

2. Thermal Analysis & Simulation

- Conduct thermal modelling and simulation for battery cells, modules, packs and racks.
- Work with CFD/thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS Fluent, Icepak, Star-CCM+ or equivalent.
- Analyze temperature distribution, hot spots, thermal gradients and cooling efficiency.
- Develop mitigation strategies for thermal runaway propagation and abnormal thermal conditions.

3. BESS Integration

- Coordinate BTMS integration with Battery Management System (BMS), Energy Management System (EMS), PCS, battery racks and HVAC systems.
- Define communication and control requirements between BTMS and BMS.
- Ensure appropriate temperature sensors, pressure sensors, flow sensors and control logic are incorporated.
- Support development of thermal management control algorithms and operating strategies.

Thermal Safety & Reliability

- Develop thermal safety strategies for battery systems.
- Support thermal runaway prevention, detection and propagation mitigation activities.
- Establish thermal operating limits and alarm/trip parameters.
- Participate in FMEA, DFMEA/PFMEA, risk assessments and reliability studies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable BESS, battery and thermal safety standards.

5. Testing & Validation

- Develop BTMS test plans, validation protocols and acceptance criteria.
- Conduct/coordinate testing for:
- Thermal performance
- Cooling capacity
- Temperature uniformity
- High/low ambient conditions
- Thermal cycling
- System efficiency
- Failure and emergency conditions

- Analyze test results and drive corrective actions.

6. Plant & Project Execution

- Support BTMS installation, commissioning and troubleshooting at the BESS manufacturing/assembly plant and project sites.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, R&D;, Procurement, EHS and Project teams.
- Support FAT/SAT, commissioning and customer acceptance activities.
- Resolve field issues related to pumps, fans, HVAC, coolant circuits, heat exchangers, sensors and controls.

7. Vendor & Supplier Management

- Identify and evaluate suppliers for BTMS components such as:
- Pumps
- Fans
- Heat exchangers
- Chillers
- Cooling plates
- Valves
- Pipes/hoses
- Thermal interface materials
- Temperature/flow/pressure sensors

- Review technical specifications, drawings and supplier proposals.
- Conduct technical discussions and supplier audits where required.

8. Documentation & Team Management

- Prepare and review technical specifications, BOMs, drawings, SOPs and validation reports.
- Maintain BTMS design documentation and engineering change records.
- Lead a team of thermal/BTMS engineers and technicians.
- Mentor team members and establish engineering best practices.
