Role: R&D; Consultant on project basis for Structure-Borne Acoustic Sensing

Context:

We build an Acoustic Steam Leak Detection system for boilers and pressure systems. It detects leaks from their acoustic signature, sensed either through the air or through the structure. Structure-borne sensing uses piezoelectric contact sensors on pipework, valves and vessel walls, picking up high-frequency energy conducted through metal before a leak is audible in open air.

Engagement

Own the structure-borne sensing chain end to end: the piezoelectric element, its mechanical coupling to the pipe, calibration, and the digitised signal our detection software analyses.

Requirements:

a) R&D; experience with piezoelectric or contact-acoustic sensors: accelerometers, AE sensors or structure-borne microphones.

b) Solid grounding in acoustics and vibration fundamentals: SPL, frequency response, resonance, mechanical coupling and its effect on signal fidelity.
