Responsibilities

Role Overview

You are responsible for making sure that every component leaving the machining lines is dimensionally correct, and that every assembled item is square, tight, and functionally sound before it moves to sanding.

Key Responsibilities

- Incoming and in-process material checks — verify timber and panel material for moisture content (target range as per specification), warp, twist, bow, cup, knots, splits, grain and shade matching before release to machining.
- First-piece and setup approval — approve the first piece at every CNC, panel saw, moulder, spindle, tenoner, boring and router setup before bulk production is allowed to run.
- Dimensional inspection — check components against drawings and cutting lists using vernier calliper, micrometre, steel rule, tape, try square, digital angle gauge and go/no-go gauges; confirm tolerances on length, width, thickness, squareness and profile.
- Joinery quality — inspect mortise and tenon, dowel, dovetail, dado, rebate and knock-down joints for fit, gap, glue-line thickness, glue coverage, clamping pressure and open/closed assembly time.
- Assembly inspection — verify diagonal and squareness readings, flatness, level, panel gaps, alignment and overall dimensions of assembled frames, carcasses, drawers and doors.
- Hardware and functionality — check fitment and operation of hinges, drawer slides, connectors, locks, castors, levellers and fittings — smooth open/close, no binding, correct reveal and gap.
- Jigs, fixtures and instruments — confirm jigs and fixtures are within condition, and that all measuring instruments are calibrated and within validity.

- Digital inspection recording — complete stage-wise inspection checklists on tablet/system in real time, upload photographs of defects, and close entries before the shift ends.
- Non-conformance handling — raise NCRs, physically tag and segregate rejected or hold material, log rework, and confirm re-inspection after correction.
- Defect analysis — track rejection and rework percentages by operation, machine and operator; support 5-Why and CAPA discussions with data, not opinion.
- Gate clearance — give stage clearance before material moves to sanding, and hand over open issues to the finishing QC in writing.
- Training and discipline — brief operators on repeat defects, correct working method and self-check practice at the machine
