Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Engineer with hands-on experience in inspecting high-precision aerospace components and subsystems. In this role, you will ensure that all incoming, in-process, and final hardware meet stringent aerospace quality standards, engineering designs, and geometric tolerances. You will work closely with internal teams and external suppliers, spending up to 50% of your time traveling across India for vendor evaluations, source inspections, and quality audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Vendor & Supplier Quality Management (50% Travel)
- Conduct on-site source inspections, dimensional evaluations, and quality audits at vendor facilities across India.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes, calibration setups, and quality records to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with supplier engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturing defects, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Corrective Action Requests (CAPA).
2. Inspection & Measurement Implementation
- Perform physical and dimensional inspection of complex aerospace mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems using standard QC instruments (Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Bore Gauges, CMM, Profile Projectors, etc.).
- Implement robust measurement methodologies, inspection test plans (ITPs), and Quality Assurance (QA) protocols for complex hardware.
- Execute compatibility, fit-up, and interface checks of components and subsystems against design specifications and CAD models.
3. Blueprint & Design Verification
- Interpret complex 2D/3D engineering drawings, GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) callouts, and design schematics.
- Verify manufacturing compliance against design tolerances,
material test reports (MTRs), and special process certifications (heat treatment, coating, NDT).
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation
- Communicate technical findings, non-conformances, and inspection reports clearly across engineering, design, production, and procurement teams.
- Prepare First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) per aerospace guidelines and maintain complete quality documentation and traceability records.
Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Production/Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant hands-on quality control/inspection experience in the aerospace or defense manufacturing sector.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel extensively (~50% of working time) to supplier locations across India.
Technical & Professional SkillsRequired Skills
- Hands-on QC Expertise: Robust experience using precision measuring instruments and CMM/optical measurement systems.
- Drawing Interpretation: Expert ability to read and interpret complex aerospace assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and GD&T; per ASME Y14.5.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective vendor management and team collaboration.
Desirable / Preferred Add-On Knowledge
- Aerospace Quality Standards: Familiarity with standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and NADCAP special processes.
- Design & CAD Fundamentals: Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA), and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Quality Assurance Tools: Hands-on experience with Root Cause Analysis (8D, 5-Why), FMEA, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
