? Project Staff at IIT Madras (COMSOL / Computational Physics)

Here's the problem: A light source and a detector sit inside a 3D chamber filled with a fluid. How much light actually reaches the sensor, both directly and by indirect paths? And where exactly should the sensor go to catch the most of it?

Dr C V Krishnamurthy, IIT Madras, is looking for a Project Staff member to model light propagation through fluids using COMSOL Multiphysics.

? What you'll do

- Evaluate the intensity of light propagating through the fluid from the source and reaching a sensor, directly and/or indirectly, using specific COMSOL modules.
- Determine optimum location(s) for the sensor within the chamber for optimum intensity detection.

scope for taking up additional tasks such as

(a) assessing the role of temperature dependent features of the fluid on light propagation from the source to the sensor, and

(b) understanding the mechanism of source excitation and the associated spectral characteristics of the radiation.

? Who should apply

- MSc in Physics,



or BTech in Engineering Physics, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science
- ⭐ Preference for candidates with COMSOL experience, especially in heat transfer and wave propagation

Candidates who feel that they have the necessary skills /experience and come from other streams of engineering may also apply.

Skills:

Basic computational skills involving numerical methods and in handling differential equations numerically.

? Duration: 12 months, with a possible extension for a second year

? Consolidated pay (minimum, per month)

Fresh BTech/MSc graduates: INR 21,500/- (higher pay would be commensurate with experience)

Fresh MTech/ME graduates: INR 27,500/- (higher pay would be commensurate with experience)
