The Project Manager will be responsible primarily for shop floor and project execution management.
Approximately 80% of the role will involve managing manufacturing operations, material availability, coordination with Purchase and Stores, logistics, dispatches, and maintaining discipline and workflow on the shop floor.
The remaining 20% will involve working with the design team, understanding CAD drawings, making minor drawing-related inputs/changes where required, and coordinating with the designer/draftsman.
The ideal candidate should be a practical, hands-on person who can work closely with technicians, fabricators, welders, electricians, stores, purchase, designers, and suppliers to ensure that projects are completed on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shop Floor & Project Execution 80% of the Role
* Take day-to-day ownership of shop floor project execution.
- Plan and monitor manufacturing activities according to project schedules.
- Coordinate with production teams, fabricators, welders, fitters, electricians, and other shop floor personnel.
- Ensure that work is progressing according to drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor daily production progress and identify delays or bottlenecks.
- Ensure proper sequencing of manufacturing, assembly, testing, and finishing activities.
- Coordinate with the Purchase and Stores teams to ensure required materials and components are available when needed.
- Identify material shortages well in advance and communicate requirements to Purchase.
- Follow up on critical bought-out components and ensure timely availability.
- Maintain proper material movement and traceability within the shop floor.
- Ensure that materials are properly stored, identified, and issued to the relevant projects.
- Coordinate subcontractors and outside vendors whenever fabrication, machining, painting, or other activities are outsourced.
- Coordinate packing, logistics, loading, transportation, and dispatches.
- Ensure that completed equipment is ready for dispatch as per customer/project requirements.
- Maintain proper organisation, cleanliness, and discipline on the shop floor.
- Ensure tools, materials, components, and work-in-progress are properly organised.
- Prepare and maintain daily/weekly project progress reports.
- Escalate delays, material shortages, technical issues, and production bottlenecks to management.
- Act as the central coordination point between the shop floor, Purchase, Stores, Design, and Management.
2. CAD / Design Coordination – 20% of the Role
* Read and understand 2D engineering drawings and basic 3D CAD models.
- Work closely with the company's designer/draftsman to ensure drawings are practical and suitable for manufacturing.
- Coordinate drawing requirements between the design team and shop floor.
- Communicate shop floor feedback to the designer and identify fabrication/manufacturing difficulties.
- Make minor drawing modifications or corrections where required, based on practical manufacturing requirements.
- Ensure the latest approved drawings are available on the shop floor.
- Maintain proper control of drawing revisions.
- Assist the designer in developing fabrication and assembly drawings based on project requirements.
Note: This is not primarily a Draftsman/CAD Designer position. CAD knowledge is required mainly to understand drawings, coordinate with the designer, and support manufacturing execution.
3. Material & Purchase Coordination
* Prepare and communicate material requirements based on project schedules.
- Coordinate closely with the Purchase Manager regarding pending materials and critical components.
- Track material availability against project requirements.
- Highlight potential material shortages that may affect project delivery.
- Coordinate with Stores for material receipt, identification, issue, and availability.
- Ensure materials are allocated appropriately to ongoing projects.
- Help reduce project delays caused by poor material planning or coordination.
4. Logistics & Dispatch
* Plan and coordinate movement of finished equipment and components.
- Coordinate packing, loading, transportation, and dispatch documentation.
- Work with transporters and logistics vendors to ensure timely dispatch.
- Ensure equipment is properly packed and protected before transportation.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure all components and accessories required for dispatch are available.
5. Project Monitoring & Reporting
* Maintain project-wise manufacturing schedules.
- Track planned vs. actual progress.
- Conduct regular shop floor reviews.
- Identify bottlenecks and take corrective action.
- Provide management with explicit updates on:
- Production progress
- Material availability
- Purchase delays
- Subcontracting status
- Assembly progress
- Dispatch readiness
- Overall project status
