Position: Pre-School Teacher
Department: Early Childhood Education / Pre-Primary
Reports to: Principal / Centre Head / Coordinator
Experience: 1 to 5 years
Role Summary The Pre-School Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating classroom environment for young children (typically ages 2 to 6), supporting their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development through age-appropriate activities, and maintaining regular communication with parents.
Key Responsibilities
1. Classroom teaching and curriculum delivery
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons covering language, numeracy, motor skills, art, music and social skills.
- Use play-based, activity-based and montessori/theme-based methods as per the school's curriculum.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching aids and classroom displays.
- Adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and paces.
2. Child development and care
- Observe and assess each child's developmental progress and maintain progress records.
- Identify children who may need additional support or early intervention and flag concerns to parents/coordinators.
- Ensure the hygiene, safety and general well-being of children during school hours.
- Build children's confidence, independence and social skills through daily routines.
3. Classroom management
- Maintain discipline and a positive, encouraging classroom atmosphere.
- Manage a class of 10 students, with support from an assistant teacher/ayah where applicable.
- Handle transitions (arrival, meals, nap time, dismissal) smoothly and safely.
4. Parent and stakeholder communication
- Communicate regularly with parents on the child's progress, behaviour and any concerns.
- Conduct or participate in parent-teacher meetings, open houses and school events.
- Maintain diaries/apps or other communication tools used by the school.
5. Administration and compliance
- Maintain attendance records, progress reports and other required documentation.
- Follow school policies on safety, child protection and emergency procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions and school events/celebrations.
Qualifications and Skills
- 10+2 / Graduate, with a diploma or certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), Montessori Training, or equivalent (B.Ed. is a plus).
- 1 to 5 years of experience teaching pre-school/nursery-age children (freshers with relevant training may also be considered).
- Patience, warmth and genuine enthusiasm for working with young children.
- Good communication skills in [English/Hindi/regional language as required].
- Creativity in preparing activities, teaching aids and classroom decor.
- Basic computer skills for records and communication with parents.
- Physically active and able to manage a classroom of young children throughout the day.
