Role Description The Photojournalist will work full time on-site in Chennai, creating visual stories that document civic issues, local communities, and public institutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and executing photo assignments, capturing high-quality images in the field, and working closely with reporters and editors to develop cohesive narratives. The role involves conducting basic on-the-ground research, interviewing sources when needed, and writing or contributing captions, photo essays, and visual explainers.
The Photojournalist will be responsible for managing camera equipment, organizing and archiving photos,
and adhering to ethical and safety standards while reporting in public spaces. Collaboration with the editorial team to pitch story ideas, refine visual angles, and meet publishing deadlines is a key part of this role.
Good to Have
- Strong skills in Photojournalism and Storytelling, with the ability to translate civic issues into compelling visual narratives.
- Proficiency in Photography and Camera operation, including composition, lighting, and basic post-processing.
- Solid Writing skills for captions, photo essays, and short accompanying texts.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical journalism, accuracy, and sensitivity when covering diverse communities.
- Ability to work on-site in Chennai, travel within the city, and report from the field in dynamic environments.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside editors and reporters.
- Relevant education or qualified experience in journalism, visual communication, media, or a related field is preferred.
