Core Role & Purpose The primary role is to serve as an advisor, strategist, and mentor. Rather than simply assisting with paperwork, an effective counselor assesses a student’s profile to determine the best academic and geographic fit, guides them through complex international admissions and immigration procedures, and prepares them for cultural and skilled transitions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Profile Evaluation & Career Mapping

- Aptitude & Background Assessment: Analyze a student’s academic transcripts, test scores, extracurriculars, work experience, and financial budget.
- Goal Alignment: Help students understand how specific degrees connect to target job markets, industry demand, and post-study work regulations (e.g., OPT/CPT in the US, PSW in the UK, PGWP in Canada).
- Course & Country Shortlisting: Recommend realistic "reach, target, and safety" universities and suitable study destinations (e.g., US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Ireland) based on curriculum, cost of living, and visa policies.

2. Test Planning & Academic Readiness

- Advise students on required standardized tests:
- Language Proficiency: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo English Test (DET).
- Standardized Entrance Exams: GRE, GMAT, SAT, or ACT (depending on level and region).
- Create timelines and preparation roadmaps so students meet early admission and scholarship deadlines.

3. Application Strategy & Documentation Support

- Document Review: Guide students on crafting compelling Statements of Purpose (SOP), Personal Statements, Letters of Recommendation (LORs), and academic CVs tailored to international standards.
- Application Management: Track deadlines, submit applications through university portals or common platforms (e.g., Common App, UCAS), and communicate with university admissions teams on the student's behalf.

4. Financial & Scholarship Guidance

- Identify merit-based, need-based, and country-specific scholarships, fee waivers, and assistantships (TA/RA/GA).
- Advise families on cost-of-living estimates, education loans,



currency planning, and part-time student work regulations.

5. Visa Filing & Interview Coaching

- Guide students through student visa requirements (e.g., US F-1, UK Student Route, Canadian Study Permit, Australian Subclass 500).
- Verify financial documentation (Proof of Funds, bank statements, affidavits) to ensure full compliance with immigration authorities.
- Conduct mock visa interviews to build student confidence and ensure articulate, authentic answers.

6. Pre-Departure Briefing & Post-Arrival Guidance

- Host orientation sessions covering health insurance, accommodation search, foreign exchange/banking, packing essentials, and transit logistics.
- Provide cultural readiness advice: navigating academic culture (plagiarism rules, grading schemes, active participation) and managing initial culture shock or homesickness.

7. University Relationship & Knowledge Management

- Stay updated on evolving immigration laws, post-study work visa policies, and university intake patterns.
- Liaise with university recruitment delegates and attend global education fairs, agent workshops, and partner webinars.
- Maintain detailed records in CRM systems regarding student status, conversion rates, and offer outcomes.

8. Essential Skills & Qualifications

Education - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, International Relations, Business, or a related field.

Language Proficiency - Fluent in English (exceptional verbal and written communication skills for document review, mock interviews, and liaison with global university reps). Proficiency in relevant regional/local languages is a plus.

Industry Knowledge - In-depth understanding of overseas education systems, intake cycles, visa protocols, and post-study work pathways (e.g., US, UK, Canada, Australia, Europe).

Soft Skills - Active listening, persuasive communication, cross-cultural empathy, relationship management, and high attention to detail.
