Role Description The Optometrist will provide comprehensive eye examinations, including assessment of visual acuity, refraction, binocular vision, and screening for common ocular conditions. Day-to-day responsibilities include prescribing and fitting spectacles and contact lenses, advising patients on visual hygiene, and identifying cases that require referral to ophthalmologists for medical or surgical management. The Optometrist will document clinical findings accurately, maintain patient records, and collaborate with the clinical team to ensure continuity of care.

Additional tasks may include patient education, pre- and post-operative visual assessments,



and support for community eye care initiatives. This is a full-time, in office role based at Dr Meharwade’s Eye Hospital in Gadag, requiring regular interaction with patients and close coordination with other eye care professionals.

Qualifications

- Recognized degree or diploma in Optometry from an accredited institution, with valid registration as required by local regulations.
- Strong clinical skills in refraction, binocular vision assessment, contact lens fitting, and basic ocular health evaluation.
- Ability to recognize and appropriately refer ocular pathologies, and to work collaboratively with ophthalmologists and other clinical staff.
- Clear, empathetic communication skills for explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care measures to patients and families.
- Attention to detail in clinical documentation, record-keeping, and adherence to hospital protocols and safety standards.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment, with strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
- Prior experience in a hospital or eye clinic setting is an advantage; familiarity with basic diagnostic equipment (e.g., slit lamp, autorefractor, tonometer) is beneficial.
- Commitment to ethical, non-discriminatory patient care and willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
