Maintenance Technician – Frozen Meat Industry
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Equipment Maintenance
- Carry out preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance of production and utility equipment.
- Maintain machines used for meat cutting, deboning, mincing, mixing, tumbling, marination, forming, weighing, packing and sealing.
- Inspect motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, chains, pumps, valves and mechanical components.
- Identify abnormal noise, vibration, leakage, overheating and other equipment faults.
- Attend breakdowns quickly to minimize production downtime.
1. Refrigeration & Cold Storage Support
- Support maintenance of cold rooms, chillers, freezers and refrigeration systems.
- Monitor temperature-related equipment and immediately report abnormalities.
- Check refrigeration equipment, evaporators, condensers, fans, pumps and associated systems.
- Coordinate with refrigeration specialists/service contractors for major repairs.
- Maintain records of refrigeration equipment breakdowns and servicing.
1. Electrical & Utility Maintenance
- Carry out basic electrical troubleshooting within the technician's authorized scope.
- Check motors, starters, sensors, switches, control panels and electrical connections.
- Support maintenance of DG sets, compressors, pumps, boilers/steam systems, ETP and water systems, where applicable.
- Report major electrical faults to the Electrical Engineer/Supervisor.
- Ensure proper functioning of utility equipment required for continuous production.
1. Preventive Maintenance
- Follow the preventive maintenance schedule for production and utility equipment.
- Lubricate machines and replace worn-out components as per maintenance schedules.
- Inspect critical spare parts and maintain minimum stock levels.
- Record completed maintenance activities and pending jobs.
- Identify potential failures before they affect production.
1. Production Support
- Coordinate with Production Supervisors during machine breakdowns and maintenance activities.
- Attend urgent breakdown calls during production shifts.
- Complete repairs with minimum production interruption.
- Conduct trial runs after maintenance and confirm machine readiness before handing over to Production.
- Support installation and commissioning of new machinery.
1. Food Safety & Hygiene
- Follow GMP, GHP, HACCP and food-safety requirements during maintenance activities.
- Ensure tools, nuts, bolts, grease, oil and other maintenance materials do not contaminate food or product-contact areas.
- Use approved food-grade lubricants wherever required.
- Clean the work area after completing maintenance.
- Ensure no loose parts, tools or foreign materials remain around production equipment.
- Follow hygiene requirements when entering processing areas.
1. Safety Responsibilities
- Follow company electrical, mechanical and machine-safety procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE such as safety shoes, gloves, helmet, goggles and protective clothing.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before working on hazardous equipment.
- Ensure machine guards and safety interlocks are properly installed after maintenance.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment damage and safety hazards.
- Follow safe working practices while working in cold rooms and wet processing areas.
1. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain maintenance logbooks and machine history records.
- Record breakdown details, root cause, corrective action and downtime.
- Complete daily maintenance checklists.
- Maintain preventive maintenance records.
- Report critical breakdowns and repeated equipment failures to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain records of replaced parts and maintenance consumables.
1. Spare Parts & Tools
- Ensure availability of critical maintenance spares.
- Properly maintain hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments.
- Inform the Maintenance Supervisor about required spare parts.
- Avoid unnecessary wastage of spare parts and consumables.
- Maintain proper tool control within production areas.
1. Contractor & Service Coordination
- Assist external technicians/service providers during equipment servicing.
- Supervise routine maintenance work carried out by contractors, as assigned.
- Verify completion of service activities.
- Ensure contractors follow plant safety and hygiene requirements.
1. Breakdown & Root Cause Analysis
- Respond immediately to machine breakdowns.
- Diagnose mechanical/electrical faults systematically.
- Identify the root cause of repeated failures.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor equipment after repair to ensure reliable operation.
1. Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain good housekeeping in the maintenance workshop and equipment areas.
- Support plant maintenance improvement projects.
- Assist in installation, relocation and modification of machinery.
- Participate in maintenance meetings and toolbox talks.
- Support energy-saving and water-saving initiatives.
- Perform other maintenance duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor.
Required Skills & Qualification
Qualification
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Fitter, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning or related trade.
- Relevant industrial maintenance experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors and sensors.
- Basic troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of refrigeration/cold-room equipment is an advantage.
- Ability to read basic electrical/mechanical drawings.
Industry Knowledge
- Experience in frozen meat, food processing, cold storage, poultry or seafood processing is preferred.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food hygiene and maintenance safety practices.
Pay: Up to ₹35,000.00 per month
