We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Professional who has strong practical knowledge of heavy earthmoving machinery and mining operations.
The candidate should understand machine performance, production/output, diesel consumption, maintenance, operating costs and vendor management and should be capable of analysing actual site performance and improving machine efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse performance of excavators, tippers, crawlers, breakers, crushers and other heavy machinery.
- Calculate and establish realistic diesel consumption and fuel-average benchmarks for different machines and operating conditions.
- Calculate machine output/productivity such as:
- Excavator – Cum/hour
- Crawler – feet/hour or metres/hour
- Tipper – trips/day and Cum/day
- Crusher – TPH / production per hour
- Compare actual production vs. target production and identify reasons for low output.
- Analyse diesel consumption vs. machine output and identify abnormal fuel consumption.
- Monitor machine working hours, idle hours, breakdown hours and utilisation.
- Prepare machinery performance reports and cost-per-hour / cost-per-unit analysis.
- Study site conditions, material type, lead distance, loading cycle, haul road conditions and operator performance while calculating machine productivity.
- Develop standard operating benchmarks for diesel, production, utilisation and maintenance.
- Coordinate with operators, supervisors, mechanics and site teams to improve machine performance.
- Identify recurring breakdowns and coordinate with the maintenance team for corrective action.
- Maintain knowledge of OEMs, spare-part suppliers, repair agencies, hydraulic specialists, engine specialists, tyre vendors and other mining equipment vendors.
- Develop and maintain a reliable vendor network for machinery, spare parts, repairs and services.
- Obtain quotations, compare technical specifications and negotiate with vendors where required.
- Verify whether machine repairs, spare replacements and maintenance costs are technically justified.
- Support management in machine purchase, hiring, replacement and repair decisions.
- Conduct periodic site visits and physically verify machine performance and operating conditions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce diesel cost, maintenance cost, downtime and machine operating cost.
Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should have:
- 2+ years of practical experience in mining, quarrying, crushing, infrastructure or heavy earthmoving equipment operations.
- Strong mechanical understanding of excavators, tippers, crawlers, crushers, breakers and related machinery.
- Practical understanding of machine production/output calculations.
- Strong knowledge of diesel consumption and fuel-average calculation.
- Experience in analysing machine performance and operating costs.
- Valuable knowledge of mining equipment and machinery vendors.
- Existing contacts/network with OEMs, spare-part suppliers, mechanics, service providers and equipment vendors will be an advantage.
- Ability to work with Excel/MIS reports and analyse operational data.
- Willingness to travel to mining and project sites.
- Strong practical/problem-solving approach rather than only theoretical mechanical knowledge.
