Position Summary
The Garment Pattern Making Workshop Lab Assistant provides support to students and faculty in the pattern-making process, equipment usage, and material handling, while ensuring the efficient and secure operation of pattern-making tools and software.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pattern Making Equipment Management:
Operate, maintain, and assist students with the use of manual and digital pattern-making tools, including drafting tables, rulers, pattern paper, and CAD pattern-making software.
2. Pattern Drafting Techniques
Provide guidance on techniques such as creating base patterns, modifying patterns for different sizes, and adapting designs for garment construction.
3. Tool and Equipment Maintenance
Regularly inspect and perform maintenance on pattern-making tools and ensure that software is updated and functioning properly.
4. Material Handling
Assist students in selecting the right tools, papers, and software required for their pattern-making projects. Manage the inventory of materials used in pattern-making.
5. Safety Procedures
Ensure that students follow workshop safety guidelines, particularly in the use of sharp tools and equipment, and promote the proper handling of materials.
6. Workshop Assistance
Support faculty during pattern-making classes by demonstrating techniques and assisting students with hands-on practice, including digital and manual pattern creation.
Required Skills
- Practical experience in garment pattern-making techniques, both manual and digital.
- Proficiency in using pattern-making software (e.g., CAD software).
- Strong understanding of pattern drafting, grading, and alteration methods.
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to pattern-making tools and equipment.
Education Qualification
Diploma in Fashion Design / Garment Pattern Making / Textile Technology / or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with substantial hands-on experience in pattern making will be considered.
Experience
5 to 10 years of experience in pattern making, CAD software operation, and workshop management.
