About the Role

We are looking for an inspiring and progressive Head of Visual Arts to lead the Visual Arts programme and build a vibrant culture of creativity, experimentation and artistic expression across the school.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in visual arts along with the ability to translate that expertise into meaningful learning experiences for students. The role requires someone who can think beyond conventional art education, encourage students to explore diverse mediums and perspectives, and create an setting where creativity, curiosity and individual expression are valued.

The Head of Visual Arts will shape the school's visual arts curriculum, pedagogy, exhibitions and creative culture, while mentoring and developing the Visual Arts faculty.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visual Arts Programme & Curriculum

- Lead the development and implementation of a progressive, age-appropriate Visual Arts curriculum from early years through senior school.
- Design learning experiences that encourage inquiry, experimentation, critical thinking and creative expression.
- Integrate traditional and contemporary art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, digital art, mixed media and installation.
- Encourage interdisciplinary projects connecting Visual Arts with humanities, sciences, technology, sustainability and other areas of learning.
- Develop opportunities for students to explore Indian and global artistic traditions and contemporary practices.
- Ensure the programme supports different levels of ability, interests and artistic expression.

2. Pedagogy & Learning

- Promote a studio-based, experiential and process-oriented approach to art education.
- Move beyond product-focused art towards exploration of ideas, process, reflection and individual voice.
- Encourage students to develop visual literacy, artistic vocabulary and the ability to critically engage with their own and others’ work.




- Develop meaningful assessment and documentation practices that recognise creativity, experimentation and growth.

3. Faculty Leadership & Development

- Lead, mentor and develop the Visual Arts faculty.
- Conduct curriculum reviews, planning sessions, observations and feedback conversations.
- Build a collaborative culture of sharing, experimentation and professional learning.
- Identify professional development opportunities and encourage faculty to engage with contemporary art practices and pedagogical approaches.
- Support teachers in designing differentiated and innovative learning experiences.

4. Creative Culture & Student Engagement

- Build a strong visual arts culture across the school and make art an integral part of the student experience.
- Curate exhibitions, showcases, installations and student-led art projects.
- Create opportunities for students to engage with artists, galleries, museums, designers and creative practitioners.
- Encourage participation in art competitions, festivals, workshops, residencies and external platforms where appropriate.
- Create spaces for students to experiment, take creative risks and develop their own artistic identity.

5. Exhibitions & School-wide Art Initiatives

- Conceptualise and curate annual and periodic student exhibitions.
- Develop large-scale installations and visual interventions across the school campus.
- Collaborate with other departments on school events, performances and interdisciplinary showcases.
- Build a thoughtfully curated visual environment that reflects the school’s educational philosophy and student work.

6. Resources, Studios & Budget

- Oversee the development and effective use of Visual Arts studios and creative spaces.
- Identify and procure appropriate materials, equipment, technology and resources.
- Manage the Visual Arts budget and ensure responsible utilisation of resources.




- Establish appropriate health, safety and studio-management protocols.

7. Community & External Engagement

- Develop relationships with artists, art institutions, galleries, museums, design schools and creative organisations.
- Identify opportunities for collaborations, workshops, artist residencies and student experiences.
- Represent the school at relevant art education forums and professional networks.
- Support the school’s broader creative and cultural initiatives.

Desired Candidate Profile

Essential

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, Design or a related discipline.
- 8–12+ years of relevant experience, preferably with experience in a progressive school or education environment.
- Strong understanding of contemporary Visual Arts education and studio-based pedagogy.
- Experience leading or mentoring a team of educators.
- Strong curriculum design and programme development capabilities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and curate exhibitions or large-scale art projects.

Desirable

- Experience with IB, IGCSE, Cambridge, progressive or inquiry-led educational environments.
- Formal training or experience in art education/pedagogy.
- Exposure to contemporary art, design, digital media or interdisciplinary creative practices.
- Experience working with external artists, galleries, museums or cultural institutions.
- A portfolio demonstrating artistic practice, curatorial work or significant student projects.
