About the Opportunity

A globally active and growing international freight forwarding and logistics organization is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Operations – India to lead and develop its operational activities from Mumbai, while overseeing teams across multiple locations in India.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a hands-on operations professional with strong experience in freight forwarding, multi-location operations, operational excellence, customer service, and team leadership. The role will play a key part in building scalable operations, improving productivity and profitability, and supporting the organization's continued growth in India.

Role Overview

The Head of Operations will be responsible for leading and optimizing freight forwarding operations across India, ensuring operational efficiency, service quality, compliance, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

The position will work closely with commercial leadership, global management, customers, carriers, agents, vendors, and other key stakeholders to strengthen operational capabilities and support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, manage and develop operational teams across multiple locations in India.
- Establish performance expectations and drive a culture of operational excellence and accountability.
- Oversee efficient execution of ocean, air, road and multimodal freight operations.
- Drive operational performance, productivity, service quality and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee shipment execution, documentation, customs compliance and exception management.
- Monitor operational KPIs and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Review operational processes and identify opportunities for process optimization, standardization and automation.
- Manage workforce planning, resource allocation and operational capacity across locations.




- Partner closely with commercial teams to support business development and customer retention.
- Develop and maintain solid relationships with carriers, vendors, agents and strategic stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, applicable regulations and industry best practices.
- Lead operational transformation, change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop succession plans and strengthen the leadership pipeline within the operations function.
- Support budgeting, cost management and effective control of operational expenditure.

Ideal Candidate Profile

- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- 8–10+ years of experience in freight forwarding and logistics operations.
- Proven experience managing large, multi-location operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of international freight forwarding, customs, transportation and supply chain processes.
- Leadership experience across ocean freight, air freight, contract logistics or integrated logistics environments.
- Strong commercial understanding of operational profitability and cost drivers.
- Demonstrated experience in operational improvement, process optimization and productivity enhancement.
- Experience leading organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership skills.
- Experience with freight forwarding systems, operational reporting and KPI management.
- Lean, Six Sigma, FIATA, customs or relevant industry certifications would be an advantage.
