Objective of the Role:
To lead the organization's Group-wide Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and occupational safety strategy, establishing a world-class safety culture across all manufacturing plants, offices, warehouses and business locations. The role will drive safety governance, risk reduction, regulatory compliance, operational safety excellence and continuous improvement across the organization, aligned with global MNC standards.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Corporate Safety Strategy & Governance
- Develop and implement the organization's overall Corporate Safety strategy, policies, standards and governance framework.
- Establish uniform safety standards across all business units, plants and locations.
- Define Group-level safety KPIs, objectives and annual improvement targets.
- Develop corporate safety policies aligned with global MNC standards and best practices.
- Establish governance mechanisms for monitoring and reviewing safety performance.
2. Plant & Operations Safety
- Provide strategic safety leadership across multiple manufacturing plants and business locations.
- Ensure implementation of robust safety management systems across operations.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with manufacturing, machinery, electrical systems, chemicals, material handling, fire, construction and maintenance activities.
- Drive reduction in workplace incidents, lost-time injuries and high-potential incidents.
- Conduct periodic safety audits and assessments across facilities.
3. Risk Management
- Establish enterprise-wide processes for Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA).
- Identify critical and high-risk activities and ensure appropriate mitigation plans.
- Develop systems for incident investigation, root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor high-risk operations and ensure effective risk-control measures.
4. Safety Culture & Behavioural Safety
- Drive a strong Zero Harm / Safety First culture across the organization.
- Develop behavioural safety programs and employee engagement initiatives.
- Promote safety ownership among plant heads, functional leaders and line managers.
- Develop safety leadership programs for senior management and operational leaders.
- Establish safety as a core business performance parameter rather than only a compliance function.
5. Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health, safety, environmental and statutory regulations.
- Monitor changes in safety legislation and ensure timely implementation across locations.
- Establish corporate compliance audits and reporting mechanisms.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and external agencies where required.
6. Audit & Continuous Improvement
- Lead corporate safety audits across plants and business locations.
- Benchmark safety performance against global industry and MNC standards.
- Identify gaps and develop structured improvement roadmaps.
- Drive implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Establish common safety systems and best practices across the Group.
7. Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity
- Develop corporate standards for fire safety, emergency response, disaster management and crisis management.
- Ensure plants have effective emergency preparedness and response systems.
- Conduct mock drills and evaluate organizational readiness.
- Work with business continuity and crisis-management teams on major operational risks.
8. Contractor & Supply Chain Safety
- Establish safety standards for contractors,
vendors and third-party service providers.
- Ensure contractor safety management systems are implemented across locations.
- Monitor high-risk contractor activities such as construction, maintenance and shutdowns.
- Develop contractor safety performance metrics.
9. Safety Analytics & Digitalization
- Develop a centralized corporate safety dashboard covering:
- LTIFR
- TRIR
- Near misses
- High-potential incidents
- Fatality risks
- Unsafe conditions
- Audit findings
- Corrective action closure
- Use data and analytics to identify trends and proactively address risks.
- Drive digital safety management and reporting systems.
10. Leadership & Organization Development
- Lead and develop the corporate safety function and plant-level safety teams.
- Establish competency frameworks for safety professionals.
- Build a strong second line of safety leadership across the organization.
- Develop training and certification programs for safety personnel.
- Partner closely with CEO/MD, COO, Plant Heads, HR, Operations, Engineering and Sustainability teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 18–25 years of experience in Corporate EHS/Safety leadership.
- Experience managing safety across multiple manufacturing plants / business units.
- Strong exposure to automotive, engineering, industrial, heavy manufacturing, chemicals or other high-risk manufacturing environments.
- Experience working with a large-scale organization / MNC environment.
- Robust knowledge of occupational safety, process safety, fire safety, risk management and statutory compliance.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing Group/Corporate EHS standards.
- Strong exposure to safety audits, incident investigation and behavioural safety.
- Experience interacting with CXO-level leadership and global corporate EHS teams.
- International exposure and experience with global safety standards would be an advantage.
