Job Role The General Manager – Finance will head the Finance function and will be responsible for the overall financial management, planning, control, compliance and risk management of the organisation. The role will be responsible for establishing robust financial systems and processes, ensuring availability and optimum utilisation of funds, monitoring financial performance, and providing timely insights to the Leadership for informed decision-making and achievement of P&L; and other financial goals.

Industry Requirement:

Candidates must have robust and relevant experience specifically within the Shipping & Logistics industry, with a sound understanding of the financial, commercial, operational and regulatory aspects of the industry.

Job Responsibilities

1. Financial Planning & Execution

1.1 Ensure processes and systems are put in place to create the annual financial plan with inputs from the marketplace, other departments and GMPL Directors, and ensure the same is rolled out to address the financial needs of the organisation.

1.2 Provide support to GMPL Directors in defining organisational goals, keeping in mind financial impact and maintaining a balance between calculated risk-taking and financial prudence.

1.3 Initiate financial strategies to ensure funds are available for GMPL's day-to-day needs and growth at optimum cost and when required.

2. Financial Administration

2.1 Establish systems and processes to ensure all stakeholders operate within approved budgets and contingency plans are implemented where required.

2.2 Provide GMPL Directors and functional heads with regular financial and business performance information to enable timely corrective action.

2.3 Educate stakeholders on financial dynamics and effective management of functional and individual budgets to maximise value from expenditure.

2.4 Ensure the Finance function operates within its allotted budgets.

2.5 Monitor Sales, Administration and General Costs and ensure, through corrective measures, that these remain within defined targets.





2.6 Leverage emerging technologies to make the GMPL Finance function a benchmark within the industry.

3. Financial Controls

3.1 Establish systems and processes for financial controls across GMPL to prevent misappropriation of funds, fraud, revenue leakage, non-conformance costs, losses and financial commitments that may adversely impact the organisation.

3.2 Initiate internal review and audit processes to identify gaps in financial controls and financial losses, and ensure timely corrective action.

3.3 Identify the root cause of financial gaps, fraud, misappropriation or losses and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

4. Financial Accounting

4.1 Establish processes and systems to accurately track, record and report income, expenditure, investments, taxes, penalties, losses, profits and other financial transactions.

4.2 Maintain appropriate books of accounts and ensure accurate financial reporting to all relevant stakeholders.

4.3 Define the financial authorisation matrix and ensure payments are processed in accordance with approved authorities and prescribed norms.

5. Invoicing & Collection

5.1 Ensure processes and systems are in place for timely and accurate invoicing of services rendered by GMPL, including applicable taxes and contractual requirements.

5.2 Ensure payments against invoices and advances are collected, banked and reported in accordance with agreed terms.

5.3 Establish an effective process for monitoring and collecting aged receivables as per GMPL standards.

5.4 Ensure GST is appropriately charged on products sold and services rendered and is deposited with the authorities within prescribed timelines.

6. Treasury

6.1 Maintain strong relationships with GMPL's bankers,



investors and VCs to secure required funding and negotiate favourable financial arrangements.

6.2 Advise GMPL Directors on funding requirements, appropriate sources of funding and assist in finalising suitable funding arrangements.

6.3 Advise GMPL Directors on investment of surplus funds and utilisation of underutilised assets.

7. Compliance

7.1 Ensure systems and processes are in place for all applicable legal and financial compliances, with periodic audits and reviews to ensure full compliance.

7.2 Advise GMPL Directors on compliance matters and coordinate with relevant Subject Matter Experts for professional advice wherever required.

7.3 Represent GMPL before relevant Government authorities in matters relating to financial and statutory compliance.

7.4 Lead the timely completion of statutory audits, financial audits and filing of required returns and documents with Government authorities.

8. Risk Mitigation

8.1 Establish systems and processes to safeguard GMPL's assets, IT systems, bank accounts and overall organisational reputation.

8.2 Ensure financial transactions and contracts are appropriately reviewed and approved before execution to safeguard GMPL's interests and minimise future financial exposure.

8.3 Establish appropriate checks and balances to minimise penalties from customers, vendors and Government authorities.

9. People & Process

9.1 Benchmark Finance practices within the Shipping & Logistics industry and other relevant industries and introduce appropriate best practices within GMPL.

9.2 Create an open and inclusive environment within the Finance function, encouraging employees to express their thoughts, ideas and concerns freely.

9.3 Work closely with the HR team to ensure the Finance function is staffed with the right skills and capabilities to achieve business goals.

Mandatory Industry Requirement

Relevant experience in the Shipping & Logistics industry is mandatory. Candidates from other industries without substantial Shipping & Logistics sector exposure will not be considered.
