Role Summary
Lead the maintenance, production support, and modernization of business-critical applications. The role requires hands-on experience with legacy .NET Framework 4.x systems and modern .NET 8+ applications, along with strong CI/CD, security, and observability practices. The successful candidate will use Spec Kit-driven development and apply GitHub Copilot (GHCP) and approved GenAI accelerators responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own application stability across production and non-production environments, including incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, and service improvement.
- Maintain and support applications built on .NET Framework 4.x, including applicable ASP.NET MVC, Web Forms, Web API, WCF, Windows Services, IIS, and Entity Framework components.
- Design, build, and modernize applications using .NET 8+ and later supported .NET releases, including ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and Entity Framework Core.
- Assess legacy architecture, dependencies, hosting, and technical debt; develop phased modernization and migration plans that minimize business disruption.
- Plan and deliver upgrades and interoperability between legacy .NET Framework and modern .NET applications.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps (ADO) Pipelines, including automated builds, tests, deployments, approvals, and rollback procedures.
- Improve application security through secure design and coding, access controls, secrets protection, and vulnerability remediation. Use Coverity and approved security processes to identify and address code vulnerabilities.
- Implement and maintain observability using Datadog or New Relic, including application performance monitoring, logs, distributed tracing, dashboards,
and actionable alerts.
- Use BlueOptima to review engineering productivity and code-quality trends and identify opportunities to improve delivery.
- Apply Spec Kit-driven development to modernization and feature work: define specifications, create plans and task breakdowns, and validate implementation against requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Use GHCP and approved GenAI accelerators for code understanding, refactoring, test generation, and documentation, with human review for correctness, security, licensing, and data-handling compliance.
- Coordinate with business stakeholders, product owners, security, infrastructure, and engineering teams; mentor developers and guide technical decisions.
Mandatory Skills and Experience
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, application maintenance, production support, or modernization.
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET Framework 4.x and enterprise applications built on legacy ASP.NET technologies.
- Hands-on experience with .NET 8+ / modern .NET, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and Entity Framework Core.
- Experience supporting applications hosted on IIS and Windows Server and troubleshooting across application, database, integration, and infrastructure layers.
- Experience with legacy-to-contemporary .NET migration, upgrade planning, or coexistence patterns.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, preferably with SQL Server.
- Experience with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps Pipelines** for CI/CD, automated testing, and controlled releases.
- Experience with Datadog or New Relic for monitoring, alerting, and production troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Coverity for static application security testing (SAST), including reviewing findings, prioritizing issues, and coordinating remediation.
- Knowledge of application security, OWASP risks, authentication and authorization, secure configuration, and vulnerability remediation.
- Experience with incident and problem management, technical documentation, stakeholder communication, and mentoring.
- Practical experience using GitHub Copilot or a comparable GenAI coding assistant, including validating generated code.
- Experience with specification-driven development: translating business needs into specifications, implementation plans, task breakdowns, and testable acceptance criteria.
Secondary / Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Spec Kit, including its specify, plan, tasks, and implementation workflow.
- Experience with BlueOptima or a similar engineering productivity and code analytics platform.
- Azure experience, including Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native architecture, API management, messaging, or microservices.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, distributed tracing, and service-level objectives.
- Experience with performance testing, resilience engineering, and disaster recovery planning.
- Exposure to GenAI-assisted engineering workflows beyond code completion, subject to organizational security and governance controls.
