– Finance Controller
Location - Bangalore
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and hands-on Finance Controller to build and manage the finance controllership function for a fast-growing stock broking business. The role requires strong technical accounting expertise, excellent knowledge of Indian regulatory and tax compliances, and the ability to establish scalable finance processes and internal controls.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a broking, fintech, or regulated financial services environment and should be comfortable working in a high-growth startup ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Controllership
● Own end-to-end accounting and bookkeeping activities.
● Ensure accurate and timely accounting of all financial transactions in compliance with Ind AS.
● Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes.
● Prepare standalone financial statements and supporting schedules.
● Assist in consolidation of group financial statements.
● Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
● Review journal entries, accruals, provisions, and balance sheet schedules.
● Ensure proper accounting for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and amortization.
Accounts Payable (AP)
● Manage the complete procure-to-pay process.
● Review vendor onboarding documentation including GST, PAN, bank details, MSME declarations, and statutory requirements.
● Verify invoices for accounting accuracy and tax compliance.
● Process vendor payments in accordance with approval matrices.
● Perform vendor reconciliations and resolve outstanding issues.
● Implement controls to prevent duplicate invoices and duplicate payments. Accounts Receivable (AR)
● Manage customer invoicing and collections.
● Monitor receivables and ageing reports.
● Perform customer reconciliations.
● Ensure timely revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance
● Ensure timely compliance with GST regulations including return filing, input tax credit reconciliations, and vendor compliance.
● Handle TDS computation, deduction, deposits, return filing, and reconciliations.
● Support tax assessments and respond to notices from tax authorities.
● Coordinate with external tax consultants and auditors.
Broking Operations Accounting
● Account for exchange-related transactions including exchange charges, clearing and settlement charges, regulatory fees, DP charges, stamp duty, and brokerage-related expenses.
● Reconcile transactions with stock exchanges, clearing corporations, depositories, and banking partners.
● Ensure accurate accounting of client and proprietary transactions.
● Maintain books in accordance with applicable SEBI, Exchange, and regulatory requirements.
Financial Reporting
● Prepare monthly MIS, management reports, and variance analysis.
● Prepare financial reports for leadership and investors.
● Support statutory audits, internal audits, and regulatory audits.
● Prepare audit schedules and coordinate audit closures.
Corporate & Regulatory Compliance
● Support compliance under the Companies Act, 2013.
● Coordinate with Company Secretary on board matters, statutory filings, and annual compliances.
● Assist in statutory filings and regulatory reporting as applicable.
Group Accounting
● Manage inter-company accounting and reconciliations.
● Handle cross-charge accounting and cost allocations across entities.
● Support accounting related to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), share capital, and other corporate actions.
● Ensure timely reconciliation of inter-company balances.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
● Strengthen financial controls and governance frameworks.
● Develop and document SOPs for finance processes.
● Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
● Ensure adherence to maker-checker controls and approval workflows.
Required Qualifications
● CA / MBA (Finance) or equivalent qualification.
● 4–6 years of relevant finance and controllership experience.
● Prior experience in Stock Broking, Capital Markets, Fintech, NBFC, or Financial Services is highly preferred.
Required Skills
● Strong knowledge of Ind AS and financial reporting.
● Excellent understanding of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
● Expertise in GST, TDS, Companies Act compliances, and statutory accounting.
● Experience preparing standalone financial statements and supporting audit schedules.
● Robust understanding of consolidation principles and inter-company accounting.
● Experience handling cross-charge accounting and FDI-related accounting.
● Knowledge of exchange settlements and capital market accounting is preferred.
● Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
● Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, INDEX-MATCH, Power Query preferred).
● Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
● Strong attention to detail with a high degree of ownership and integrity.
