For more information, visit https:// www.worldbank.org/en/who-we-are/ibrd The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN) is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group's funded benefit plans. Financial management includes asset management responsibilities and actuarial support. PEN manages about $40 billion US dollars invested across a range of asset classes, including fixed income, public equities, private equity, real assets, absolute return, and credit strategies.
The Pension Finance
Committee, appointed by the Bank Group President and chaired by the Chief Financial Officer, has oversight responsibility for the financial management of the plans. PEN’s responsibilities also include the delivery of technical assistance on multi- asset class investment management to pension plans, endowments and funds for the future, and the management of the Pension Administration function. PEN identifies, selects, evaluates, and monitors investments, through outside managers, globally.
The Pension Middle Office team (PENMO) under PEN is responsible for providing a full range of functions supporting these investment activities, including the following: i) pension plan operational activities, ii) pension plans financial statements, iii) pension investment performance and attribution, iv) asset class exposure monitoring, v) investment asset pricing and valuation, and vi) third-party clients’ reporting.

The Financial Analyst will work within a collaborative team to support timely and accurate financial reporting, investment operations, tax recovery, valuation review, control assurance, and process improvement activities.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The primary responsibilities will be in the domain of financial reporting and investment operations that will include, but is not limited to, some combination of the following activities:
- Prepare financial reporting deliverables for IBRD’s quarterly and annual reporting as per applicable US GAAP pronouncements.
- Review the Pension Plans' investment manager tax reporting, analyze K-1s and equivalent tax documents, identify tax recovery opportunities, coordinate with investment managers and external tax advisors,
and track recovery initiatives through completion.
- Perform investment operations activities, including account openings, custodian relationship support, wire instruction maintenance, futures margin management, class action monitoring and reconciliation, cash and position investigations, and resolution of operational exceptions.
- Prepare quarterly and annual financial reporting deliverables, including working papers, reconciliations, footnotes, and financial statements, in accordance with applicable IFRS and US GAAP requirements.
- Analyze the valuation of private market investments, including private equity, private credit, real estate, and infrastructure assets; identify exceptions; and enhance controls over fair value reporting.
- Provide assurance over critical Pension Plan processes and controls through process reviews, risk assessments, control testing, and documentation reviews, supporting the effectiveness of the internal control framework and internal and external audit activities.
- Support process improvement, automation, and strategic initiatives, including systems implementation, dashboard development, data analytics, workflow enhancements, and maintenance of policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and strengthen controls.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests and escalate daily operational issues with custodians, internal stakeholders and external parties
Selection Criteria
- A professional accounting designation such as CA, CPA or ACCA is required. Any master’s degree in finance, accounting, or Business (MBA) or having a CFA charter will be an added advantage.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree, with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is desirable.
- A professional designation such as CFA, CA, or CIMA is preferred.
- Candidates must have a minimum of two years of relevant domain experience in one or more of the following areas: investment operations, internal audit, accounting, financial reporting, valuation, tax reporting, or related financial control activities.
- Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel proficiency. Knowledge of Power Query, prompt engineering, and/or Python would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly and effectively.
- Experience working with custodians, fund administrators, investment managers, general partners, and other external service providers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- A high level of initiative and self-motivation, with a practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to working in a respectful, team-oriented, and multicultural setting.
- Flexibility to overlap with U.S. business hours to meet reporting deadlines and willingness to travel to Washington, DC, as required.
