Role Description The Final Year Project Lead – Design & Fabrication is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Chennai Area. This role oversees the end-to-end planning, design, and fabrication phases of final year engineering projects, guiding learners through concept development, design reviews, prototyping, and testing.
The Project
Lead collaborates with faculty and laboratory staff to ensure safe and effective use of workshop, lab, and fabrication facilities, and supports learners in applying theoretical knowledge to practical project outcomes. Daily responsibilities include mentoring project teams, coordinating schedules and resources, reviewing project documentation, ensuring adherence to academic and safety standards, and reporting progress to department leadership. The role also involves fostering industry-relevant practices, encouraging innovation,
and supporting the continuous improvement of project-based learning within the institution.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering disciplines, with demonstrable experience in design and fabrication projects.
- Proficiency in engineering design tools (e.g., CAD software) and familiarity with common fabrication processes such as machining, welding, and prototyping.
- Experience supervising or mentoring project teams, preferably in an academic or training workplace, with an ability to guide learners through structured project workflows.
- Knowledge of laboratory and workshop safety practices, equipment handling, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Effective communication and documentation skills, including the ability to review technical reports, project plans, and design specifications.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to coordinate multiple projects, resources, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Commitment to inclusive, learner-centered mentoring, with the ability to support diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or related field); a master’s degree or prior teaching/project coordination experience is an advantage.
- Familiarity with current industry practices, standards, and emerging technologies in design and fabrication is desirable.
