Embedded Hardware & Robotics Intern
Location: SATCARD, IIT Palakkad
Duration: 4–6 Months
Employment Type: Internship
Stipend: As per project norms
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Embedded Hardware & Robotics Intern to support the development of autonomous agricultural robots and smart farming systems. The intern will work on embedded electronics, electrical systems, motor control, sensors, PCB development, and robot testing, gaining hands-on experience with real-world robotic platforms.
Roles & Responsibilities
● Develop and integrate electrical and embedded systems for agricultural robots.
● Work with ESP32, STM32, Arduino and other microcontrollers.
● Interface DC/BLDC motors, motor drivers, encoders, sensors, batteries, and BMS.
● Develop wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and cable harnesses.
● Perform power budgeting, current/voltage calculations, and component selection.
● Work with CAN, UART, I²C, SPI, GPIO, PWM, and other communication interfaces.
● Assist with PCB design, prototyping, soldering, and hardware debugging.
● Integrate and test LiDAR, IMU, GNSS/RTK-GPS, cameras, and other sensors.
● Assist with motor control and PID tuning.
● Conduct laboratory and outdoor field testing of robotic systems.
● Troubleshoot electrical and embedded hardware issues.
● Maintain BOMs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and test reports.
Required Skills
● Basic understanding of electrical/electronics fundamentals.
● Knowledge of motors, motor drivers, batteries, BMS, and sensors.
● Basic Embedded C/C++ knowledge.
● Ability to use a multimeter and basic electronics tools.
● Basic soldering, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting skills.
● Robust analytical and problem-solving ability.
● Passion for hands-on robotics and hardware development.
Preferred Skills
● ESP32 / STM32 / Arduino
● KiCad / EasyEDA / Altium
● CAN / UART / I²C / SPI
● PCB design and prototyping
● Motor control and PID
● LiDAR / IMU / GNSS / RTK

Eligibility
B.E./B.Tech students or recent graduates from: EEE / ECE / Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics / Instrumentation / Robotics / Automation or related disciplines. Final-year students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
