Role summary

Embedded Firmware Developer with 4–5 years of hands-on experience building firmware for automotive and industrial mmWave radar sensors. The engineer will develop, integrate and validate firmware on radar SoCs from TI, NXP, Calterah or similar vendors. The main application focus is safety functions such as AEB, MOIS, BSIS and proximity / collision warning systems.

Key responsibilities

1. Design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for FMCW mmWave radar sensors on TI (AWR/IWR series), NXP (S32R, TEF82xx / Other) and Calterah (Alps, Rhine) platforms.
2. Configure the radar front end: chirp and frame design, ADC sampling, TX/RX channel setup and calibration.
3. Implement and optimise the signal processing chain on DSP / hardware accelerators: range FFT, Doppler FFT, CFAR detection, angle estimation (DoA) and point-cloud generation.
4. Develop application-layer features such as clustering, tracking (Kalman filters), target classification and warning logic for AEB, MOIS, BSIS and proximity warning systems.
5. Develop low-level drivers and BSP: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN / CAN-FD, Ethernet, GPIO, timers, DMA, bootloader and flash.
6. Integrate firmware with vehicle networks using CAN / CAN-FD messaging (DBC), diagnostics (UDS) and, where applicable, AUTOSAR stacks.
7. Work within an RTOS (FreeRTOS, TI-RTOS / SYS/BIOS, or similar) and multi-core architectures (ARM Cortex-R/M + DSP).
8. Optimise memory, CPU load and timing to meet real-time frame rates and latency budgets.
9. Plan and execute unit, integration and vehicle / field testing; analyse logged radar data and fix issues in detection and false alarms.
10. Support functional-safety (ISO 26262) and process (ASPICE) work products: requirements, design documents, traceability, reviews.
11. Coordinate with hardware, antenna, algorithm and system-validation teams, and with customers during sample and SOP phases.

Required skills (must-have)

- Radar chipsets:-Hands-on firmware on at least one radar SoC family: TI AWR1642/1843/2944/6843, IWR series; NXP SAF85XX, TEF810x/TEF82xx/Other; Calterah Alps / Rhine; or Infineon, Renesas (Steradian) equivalents
- Radar fundamentals:-FMCW principles, chirp / frame configuration, range-Doppler processing, CFAR, angle-of-arrival, point clouds, radar calibration
- Radar applications:-Delivered at least one of: AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking), MOIS (Moving Off Information System), BSIS (Blind Spot Information System), proximity / collision warning, rear cross-traffic or parking assist
- Programming:-Robust Embedded C; working knowledge of C++; Python or MATLAB for data analysis and tooling
- RTOS and architecture:-FreeRTOS, TI-RTOS / SYS/BIOS or AUTOSAR OS; multi-core ARM Cortex-R/M with DSP (e.g. C66x) or radar hardware accelerators
- Peripherals and interfaces:-SPI, I2C, UART, CAN / CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet, DMA, bootloader, flash programming
- Tools:-TI mmWave SDK, mmWave Studio, Code Composer Studio; NXP S32 Design Studio / RSDK; Lauterbach / JTAG debuggers; CANoe / CANalyzer; Git, JIRA
- Testing:-Bench and vehicle testing, radar data logging and analysis, root-cause debugging of false detections and misses
- The applications map to these regulations, which candidates who worked on commercial-vehicle projects should recognise: UN R152 (AEBS), UN R151 (BSIS) and UN R159 (MOIS).

Preferred skills (good to have)

- AUTOSAR Classic (MCAL, COM stack) configuration with Vector or EB tools.
- ISO 26262 functional safety and ASPICE project experience.
- MISRA C compliance and static analysis (Polyspace, QAC, Coverity).
- Multi-target tracking and classification (EKF / UKF, DBSCAN clustering, pedestrian vs. vehicle vs. cyclist).
- Sensor fusion with camera or ultrasonic sensors.
- Radar for off-highway, mining, construction or industrial vehicles (proximity warning, reverse detection).
- Exposure to EMC testing, production end-of-line calibration and OTA / bootloader updates.
