Hardware Test Engineer – Smart Lock Testing
Responsibilities
● Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies and test scripts for smart lock devices with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity
● Set up and configure automated test environments using hardware test rigs and device controllers capable of simulating button presses, lock mechanisms, and wireless signal variations
● Validate Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi connectivity across various environmental conditions, device states, and firmware versions
● Develop and maintain automated test scripts that verify communication protocols, connection stability, data integrity, and edge-case scenarios
● Perform manual and automated hardware testing to identify hardware failures, connectivity issues, and performance bottlenecks
● Debug issues in collaboration with firmware and hardware design teams to isolate root causes
● Manage firmware updates and version control during the test process
● Document test results with clear reporting, analysis, and actionable feedback for engineering teams
Primary Skills
● Strong experience in hardware testing and quality assurance
● Proficiency in writing test scripts (Python, C, or similar programming languages)
● Solid knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi technologies and protocols
● Familiarity with hardware testing tools, measurement equipment, and testing frameworks
● Ability to work with firmware, perform firmware updates, and understand device architecture
● Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
● Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
● Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
● Experience with version control systems and test docum
Additional points
- Experience in creating, setting up, configuring automated test environments using physical test rigs, test fixtures , test benches and device controllers capable of simulating real-world conditions such as button presses, lock/latch mechanisms, and wireless signal variability.
- Demonstrated experience writing and maintaining TypeScript code in a production environment
- Practical experience with Playwright and/or Appium, including direct experience debugging locators on real iOS and Android devices. Experience with both frameworks is preferred.
- Proven ability to design tests that leverage REST/GraphQL APIs for test setup and teardown, minimizing reliance on UI interactions.
- Proficient in working within standard engineering workflows, including Git version control, pull requests, peer code review, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong preference for candidates who can independently read logs, traces, and stack traces to diagnose failures in automation code, rather than relying primarily on formal test-plan documentation
- Ability to write explicit, precise, and unambiguous English, for documentation and reports that will be regularly read by manual QA team members.
