The Assistant Professor in Community Medicine is responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, community-based clinical and preventive healthcare activities, research, student mentoring, and departmental academic and administrative responsibilities in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities
- Conduct lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, seminars, and small-group teaching for undergraduate medical students.
- Teach community medicine topics including epidemiology, biostatistics, communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, occupational health, environmental health, health education, and health administration.
- Conduct field-based teaching and community postings.
- Supervise students during community diagnosis, surveys, family studies, and field visits.
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, question papers, assignments, and assessment activities.
- Participate in internal and university examinations, OSPE/OSCE, practical examinations, and other academic assessments.
- Provide academic guidance and mentoring to students.
2. Community & Clinical Responsibilities
- Participate in preventive, promotive, and community-oriented healthcare services.
- Supervise activities at Urban/Rural Health Training Centres and community field practice areas.
- Participate in screening programs, health camps,
immunization activities, health education, and community outreach programs.
- Support implementation and evaluation of national health programmes.
- Maintain appropriate clinical and community health records.
3. Research Responsibilities
- Conduct and participate in epidemiological, community-based, and public health research.
- Develop research protocols and participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Guide undergraduate research projects and, where applicable, postgraduate dissertations.
- Participate in conferences, workshops, CME programmes, and other academic activities.
- Contribute to departmental research projects and grant applications.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain academic and departmental records.
- Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning.
- Assist with accreditation, inspection, and regulatory documentation.
- Perform duties assigned by the Head of Department/Dean/Principal.
- Participate in institutional committees as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS with postgraduate qualification in Community Medicine/Preventive & Social Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the appropriate medical regulatory authority.
- Eligibility and experience as prescribed by the applicable medical education/regulatory regulations.
