Assistant General Manager (Legal)
Location: Mumbai
Reporting To: General Manager (Legal)
Team Reporting: Corporate Office legal team members as assigned
Role Overview: .
The Assistant General Manager (Legal) at Corporate Office will be responsible ‘or overseeing, monitoring and administration of the Company's litigation portfolio on a pan-India basis. The role involves management and review of consumer, civil, criminal, writ and related legal matters, coordination with Regional/Back Offices and external counsel, litigation analytics and reporting, policy/process enhancement and support to senior management in legal and court-related matters.
The position requires a legal professional with strong administrative and analytical capability, sound understanding of litigation processes and the ability to manage institutional legal functions in a dynamic and geographically spread environment.

Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution is essential.
- Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) and/or additional certifications/qualifications will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Litigation Management & Strategic Oversight
- Monitor and oversee litigation matters across jurisdictions including consumer, civil, criminal, writ and related proceedings.
- Review litigation trends, identify recurring legal/operational concerns and recommend litigation management strategies and corrective measures.
- Monitor handling of sensitive and high-value litigation matters and assist in strategic decision-making relating to appeals and legal course of action.
- Ensure effective coordination and follow-up with Regional Offices, Back Offices and departments at Corporate Office for effective litigation management.
- Legal Administration & Governance
- Develop, review and strengthen litigation management systems, SOPs and legal monitoring mechanisms.
- Supervise and allocate work within the Corporate Office legal team.
- Monitor various administration processes related to legal department and ensure timely reporting and compliance with internal guidelines.
- Support process improvements aimed at strengthening institutional legal risk management.
- Advocate & Counsel Management
- Coordinate with external advocates, law firms and senior counsel engaged by the Company
- Review and negotiate skilled charges relating to Corporate Office legal matters. : ‘
- Periodic review of existing fee structure for various types of litigations and other legal matters handled at Back Offices, Regional Offices and Corporate Office.
- Review and process approvals relating to advocate fees and other litigation related expenses, court-awarded costs/penalties within applicable approval framework.
- Review performance and effectiveness of counsel handling important matters.
- MIS, Reporting & Legal Analytics
- Oversee preparation and review of litigation MIS, dashboards, management presentations and other statistical reports.
- Analyse litigation data and trends for strategic review and management decision-making.
- Ensure accuracy and timely submission of legal reports required by management and regulatory/statutory authorities
- Board & Senior Management Support
- Prepare and present legal and litigation-related inputs before senior management and Board/Committee, as may be required .
- Provide all requisite support to the management in handling legally sensitive, and reputational risk-oriented matters requiring institutional coordination and strategic response.
- Audit & Coordination:
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits pertaining to legal and litigation matters.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders across departments and locations for legal data, litigation updates and case-related support.
- Support management in responding to legal and regulatory information requirements.
Experience Requirement
- Approximately 15 years of relevant post-qualification experience in legal functions.
- Experience in Banking/HFC/NBFC or large financial/institutional organisations will be preferred.
- Prior exposure to Corporate Office legal functions and litigation management preferred.
- Experience in managing legal MIS/reporting systems, external counsel coordination and institutional legal processes desirable.
- Team management and stakeholder coordination experience preferred.
