Role Description The AFEC Counsellor role at Sevalaya is a full-time, in office position based in . The counsellor will provide individual and group counselling support to beneficiaries, helping them address personal, family, educational, and social challenges. Daily responsibilities include conducting assessments, maintaining confidential case records, planning and executing awareness or guidance sessions, and coordinating with project staff and community stakeholders.
The role also involves monitoring progress,
preparing periodic reports, and contributing to program development to improve the overall well-being of participants. The AFEC Counsellor is expected to collaborate closely with the Sevalaya team to ensure compassionate, ethical, and effective support services.
Qualifications
- Relevant academic background such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
- Demonstrated skills in counselling, case management, and psycho-social support, with the ability to handle sensitive situations ethically and confidentially.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to engage with diverse age groups and communities.
- Organizational and documentation skills to maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage time effectively in a program setting.
- Fluency in local languages (such as Tamil) and working proficiency in English; prior experience in NGO or community-based work is an advantage.
- Ability to work on-site in Tiruvallur, collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to social development and Sevalaya’s values.
