What you'll do: The position is for a Hardware Development Engineer in the Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG), based in Bangalore, Karnataka. This is an exciting role in the ThinkSystem Server Development organization that has a strong focus to be the #1 trusted IT Partner in the Datacenter market. The hardware development engineer will be an integral member of a team responsible for developing innovative and complex server designs to meet customer and business needs.
These organic designs provide exposure to the latest technologies from Lenovo and its development partners to meet market demands. The role also entails solving unique client challenges through the custom development of solutions.
Role Description The Advisory Hardware Engineer is a full time role based in Bengaluru with a hybrid work model, combining on-site collaboration with flexible work-from-home options. The person in this position will lead the design, development,
and validation of server hardware and system design & solutions for Lenovo products, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with quality standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and reviewing circuit designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams on product architecture, performing hardware debugging, and supporting prototype builds and test plans.
The role also involves documenting hardware specifications, driving design reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with manufacturing and supply chain teams to enable smooth product ramp and lifecycle support.
Required skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering.
- 15+ years of in-depth experience in x86 architecture and hardware design. Server design experience is strongly preferred.
- Expertise in Circuit Design and Electronics Hardware Design, with hands-on experience in board-level and system-level design.
- Demonstrated experience in overall Hardware architeure and integration for complex technology products.
- Knowledge and design experience of DDR, PCIe, USB, Ethernet, SPI, I2C along with High-speed PCB design and signal integrity will be an essential requirement.
- Experience in EDA schematic design tools for PCB schematic creation, supporting physical/Layout design activity.
- Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), hardware bring-up, validation will be required with good hands on hardware debugging techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory requirements, such as signal integrity, power integrity, EMC/EMI, and safety compliance.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to triage and resolve complex hardware issues, working seamlessly with other engineers on problem investigation will be essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for a variety of tasks, potentially including customer engagements, architecture design/feedback, and executive updates.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in both a team environment and self-directed; passionate about learning new technologies and skills.
- Experience in leading hardware projects or mentoring engineers, ideally within a global or cross-cultural environment.
Preferred skills:
- High-speed board design and validation
- Signal Integrity and Power Integrity analysis
- FPGA development and validation
- DC Power circuit design, and/or
- PCIe bus design, simulation, and validation.
- Proficiency in Linux/Windows Operating systems. Experience with OS virtualization.
- Strong proficiency in shell scripting (BASH/Perl/Python and Windows Power Shell)
- Business acumen to engage with various functional teams required to take projects from concept to production.
