We are looking for a Senior Software EngineerPHP (Laravel) who thinks beyond features - someone who buildsmaintainable systems, reusable components, and strong foundationsfor the engineering team. In this role, you will build robust APIsand services powering our core e-commerce experience and go beyond:You will create reusable modules, enforce code quality standards,and help streamline development through automation and internaltooling. You will apply software engineering excellence - cleancode, modular architecture, CI/CD, observability - to everythingyou build. You will think long term, building scalable, secure, andperformant systems that reduce tech debt and increase teamvelocity. Key Responsibilities Design and build backend services inLaravel — APIs, background workers, and event consumers that carryreal production traffic. Own services end to end: schema design,implementation, tests, deployment pipeline, dashboards, and on-callfor what you ship. Design and optimise relational schemas inMySQL,Postgresql, with attention to indexing, query performance,and migration safety at scale. Model DynamoDB tables around accesspatterns for the services where we use it, and know when a workloaddoes not belong there. Build integrations between our services andthe platforms around them — Magento, NetSuite, Algolia, and ourcarrier and logistics systems — with sane retries, idempotency, andfailure handling. Use SQS and event-driven patterns to decoupleservices and keep them resilient when a dependency degrades. ApplyRedis (ElastiCache) deliberately for caching and rate limiting,with clear invalidation rules rather than TTL guesswork. Writeclean, tested PHP, and build reusable modules and internal toolingthat make the rest of the team faster. Own CI/CD for your servicesand keep deployments boring and zero-downtime. Work fluently withAI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex,



and similar),and help improve the AI development workflows our engineering teamsalready run on. Experience 5+ years building production backendsystems, with deep Laravel and modern PHP experience. Provenrelational database skills — schema design, query optimisation, andsafe migrations on MySQL or a MySQL-compatible engine. Solid AWSexperience: RDS/Aurora, ElastiCache, SQS, DynamoDB, and theoperational side of running services there. Experience withmicroservices, queues, and event-driven architecture — includingthe failure modes, not just the happy path. Comfort with Docker,Linux, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience integrating with largethird-party or legacy systems where you don't control the otherside. Working proficiency with AI-assisted development tools, andjudgement about where they help and where they don't. Familiaritywith Jira and Confluence. Nice to have - exposure to Magento 2 asan integration target, or experience migrating services off amonolith. What Success Looks Like First 30 days. You've shippedsomething real to production — not a starter ticket, a service or afeature with users behind it. You can draw how our Backend servicesand the systems around them actually fit together, including theparts that are ugly. Your code reviews have started catching thingsother people missed. By 3 months. You own a service outright:schema, deploys, dashboards, and on-call. It has observabilitysomeone else can read at 2am and boundaries that are documentedrather than tribal. Your code reviews are catching things otherpeople missed,



and you've made the case for fixing at least onething that's architecturally wrong. By six months. Other engineersare building on patterns you established, without being asked to.Incidents in your services are rarer, and the ones that happen arediagnosed in minutes instead of hours. Work that used to need threepeople coordinating now takes one — and the reason traces back tofoundations you laid.
