The opportunity:
As Engineering Manager -DTT (Traction Transformer) at GEC India, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization delivering tender, order, product, and technology engineering services to global traction transformer factories and business units. You will translate business priorities into a clear engineering strategy, build scalable competencies and capacity, and establish robust governance for safe, compliant, high-quality, and on-time execution. Working closely with HUB engineering leaders, factories, product management, project management, supply chain, quality, and customers, you will drive standardization, digitalization, innovation, and continuous improvement while developing a strong leadership pipeline and an engaged, high-performing team.
How you'll make an impact:
- Define and execute the GEC India engineering strategy and capability roadmap for traction transformers in alignment with Business Unit, Global Product Group, HUB, and factory priorities.
- Lead engineering delivery for tenders, customer orders, design modifications, product development, value engineering, and lifecycle support, ensuring committed quality, cost, and schedule targets are achieved.
- Establish effective governance for project allocation, design reviews, technical risk management, escalation, change control, documentation, and engineering release processes.
- Ensure traction transformer designs meet contractual requirements, applicable railway and transformer standards, customer specifications, internal design rules, and safety and regulatory expectations.
- Own capacity and workforce planning, competency mapping, succession planning, recruitment, onboarding, and technical development for electrical, mechanical,
and related engineering disciplines.
- Develop team and technical experts, set clear objectives, coach performance, and foster an inclusive culture of accountability, collaboration, knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Manage resource utilization, productivity, external engineering spending, and cost recovery while balancing demand across factories, HUBs, and projects.
- Define and monitor KPIs for on-time delivery, first-time-right quality, engineering hours, productivity, utilization, cost performance, customer satisfaction, and competency development implement corrective actions where required.
- Drive design standardization, modularization, reuse, digital engineering, automation, and deployment of common tools and processes across the traction transformer engineering network.
- Partner with factories and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues, support root-cause analysis, capture lessons learned, and improve product quality, manufacturability, reliability, and total cost.
