Position Overview:

The CPU Manager is accountable for end-to-end operational performance of the assigned Central Processing Unit, ensuring timely, accurate and cost-efficient processing of shipments in line with network cut-offs and service commitments.

The role owns daily CPU execution including inbound and outbound processing, sorting, shift planning, manpower deployment, productivity, shipment accuracy, facility readiness and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Leads Shift Executives, Processing Supervisors and support teams to ensure smooth movement of shipments through the CPU and timely handover to downstream Air, Surface and Last Mile networks.

The role works closely with the Regional CPU Manager and line Operations teams to deliver throughput, turnaround time, productivity, processing quality and cost targets, while supporting automation, process improvement and peak-readiness initiatives.

Job Purpose:

To manage a high-performing CPU operation by ensuring timely processing, accurate sorting, optimum manpower and infrastructure utilization, adherence to network cut-offs and continuous improvement in productivity, quality and cost per shipment.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

- Own day-to-day performance of the CPU across all shifts.
- Translate regional CPU plans and network requirements into daily operating plans.
- Ensure uninterrupted processing flow across inbound, sorting, processing and outbound activities.
- Drive adherence to defined network cut-offs and service commitments.
- Ensure CPU readiness for daily, seasonal and peak-volume requirements.
- Escalate capacity, manpower, equipment or infrastructure constraints proactively to the Regional CPU Manager.

People Leadership & Shift Management

- Lead Shift Executives, Processing Supervisors and support teams.
- Plan manpower and shifts in line with hourly and daily shipment volumes.
- Ensure appropriate deployment across sorting, scanning, processing and loading activities.
- Drive accountability, productivity and operating discipline across shifts.
- Build team capability through coaching, training and structured performance reviews.
- Maintain contingency plans for absenteeism, sudden volume spikes and peak periods.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Processing & Throughput Management

- Own inbound and outbound processing performance of the CPU.
- Ensure shipments are processed within defined turnaround time and network cut-offs.
- Monitor hourly throughput and dynamically redeploy manpower and resources as required.
- Drive load balancing across shifts, workstations and processing streams.
- Ensure timely sort completion and dispatch readiness.
- Prevent processing backlogs and proactively resolve volume accumulation.
- Maintain shipment connectivity to downstream Air, Surface and Last Mile networks.

Sort Quality & Shipment Accuracy

- Ensure accurate shipment sorting, scanning and routing.
- Monitor missorts, misroutes, processing errors and shipment exceptions.
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions on recurring quality defects.
- Ensure physical-to-system shipment reconciliation.
- Improve scan compliance and shipment visibility.




- Drive reduction in damages, handling defects and rework.

Pickup & Customer Connectivity

- Ensure pickup commitments for customers tagged to the CPU are executed reliably.
- Monitor pickup adherence and timely processing of customer shipments.
- Coordinate with First Mile teams to address pickup delays and volume fluctuations.
- Ensure customer loads are processed within committed operational cut-offs.
- Support improvement in pickup productivity and cost.
- Escalate recurring customer-specific operational constraints for resolution.

Productivity & Manpower Optimization

- Drive shipments-per-man-hour productivity across all shifts.
- Align manpower deployment to actual workload and shipment volumes.
- Reduce avoidable overtime, idle manpower and excess handling.
- Monitor productivity by activity, shift and team.
- Identify opportunities for flexible manpower deployment and process simplification.
- Improve labour productivity without compromising quality or service.

Infrastructure & Capacity Management

- Monitor CPU capacity utilisation and identify emerging capacity constraints.
- Ensure infrastructure, material-handling equipment and workstations remain operationally ready.
- Coordinate with Engineering / Facilities teams on breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
- Support layout improvements and workflow redesign to improve movement and processing efficiency.
- Provide inputs for capacity expansion and infrastructure enhancement.
- Ensure peak-period capacity readiness through advance planning.

Automation & Technology Enablement

- Ensure effective utilization of sorting, scanning and processing systems.
- Drive adoption and usage discipline around automation deployed at the CPU.
- Coordinate with IT and Engineering teams for system and equipment issues.
- Monitor automation productivity, uptime and accuracy.
- Support implementation and testing of new automation / digital initiatives.
- Ensure teams are trained on systems and digital operating processes.

Cost Optimization & Efficiency

- Monitor and manage CPU operating cost and cost per shipment.
- Optimize manpower, consumables, facility and operating resources.
- Reduce rework, excess handling and avoidable processing cost.
- Identify cost-improvement opportunities without compromising service or quality.
- Track benefits from productivity, automation and process-improvement initiatives.
- Support local service-partner performance management where applicable.

Safety, Compliance & Governance

- Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety standards and operational controls.
- Maintain readiness for internal and external audits.
- Ensure accurate operational documentation and records.
- Conduct periodic floor audits and process reviews.
- Drive timely closure of audit observations and corrective actions.
- Maintain workplace safety, housekeeping and equipment-operating standards.

Continuous Improvement

- Identify process bottlenecks and recurring operating defects.
- Apply structured problem-solving and root-cause-analysis tools.
- Drive local improvement initiatives focused on throughput, cost, quality and productivity.
- Pilot and implement improved operating practices.
- Measure and report benefits realised from improvement initiatives.
- Share successful practices with the Regional CPU Manager for wider replication.

Stakeholder & Governance

- Work closely with the Regional CPU Manager, Branch Operations, Air, Surface, First Mile and Last Mile teams.
- Coordinate with Engineering, IT, HR, Security and Finance as required.
- Participate in regional CPU performance reviews and operational governance forums.
- Provide accurate daily / weekly CPU performance reporting.
- Escalate network-impacting operational risks in a timely manner.
- Act as the location SME for CPU processing operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Education : Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or related discipline preferred; MBA / PG desirable.
- Experience : 8–11 years of relevant experience in logistics, express operations, hub / sort-centre operations, eCommerce fulfilment,



warehouse or high-throughput processing environments.
- Strong hands-on experience in shipment processing, sorting, shift operations and manpower management.
- Experience managing medium-to-large operational teams in a time-sensitive setting.
- Understanding of throughput planning, network cut-offs, load balancing and shipment connectivity.
- Experience in manpower productivity, shift planning and cost optimisation.
- Exposure to automation, scanning systems, sortation equipment and operational technologies preferred.
- Strong understanding of process compliance, safety and quality management.
- Experience in handling peak-volume operations and contingency planning.

· Preferred Industries: Express Logistics, Courier, eCommerce Logistics, 3PL, Fulfilment, Warehousing, Transportation and Supply Chain Operations.
