About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Backend Lead to own and scale core server-side systems for a rapid-growing technology product. You will drive backend architecture, performance, reliability, and engineering standards while mentoring a team of backend engineers.

Key Responsibilities
• Design and scale APIs, data models, caching, and event-driven architectures.
• Own backend performance, reliability, observability, and production SLOs.
• Lead database architecture, query optimisation, indexing, and data partitioning.
• Design and maintain secure, reliable payment integrations, including reconciliation and idempotency.
• Establish backend coding, testing, code-review, and observability standards.
• Mentor junior and mid-level backend engineers and participate in technical hiring.
• Work closely with DevOps on cloud infrastructure, deployment reliability, and optimisation.
• Lead backend incident reviews and drive long-term systemic improvements.

Requirements




• 6–10 years of backend engineering experience with experience scaling complex systems.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js / TypeScript.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Redis and message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Experience building production-scale REST/GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with AWS, including services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, ElastiCache, API Gateway, SNS/SES.
• Experience with payment gateway integrations, reliability, idempotency, and reconciliation.
• Understanding of event-driven architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, or Splunk.

Nice to Have• Experience building booking, availability, inventory, or transaction-heavy systems.
• Experience working on high-scale consumer-facing platforms.
