JOB DESCRIPTIONCNC / VMC Setter1. Position Details

1. Job Purpose
To set, operate and optimize CNC/VMC machines for producing components as per engineering drawings, process sheets and required quality standards, while ensuring productivity, dimensional accuracy and minimum rejection.
1. Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate CNC Turning and/or VMC machining centers as per production requirements.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, process sheets and setup instructions.
- Perform complete machine setup, including:
- Fixture loading and setting
- Tool selection and tool setting
- Work offset setting
- Tool offset correction
- Workpiece zero/reference setting
- Program loading and verification
- Understand and edit CNC programs using G-code and M-code.
- Carry out program prove-out, dry run and single-block checking before production.
- Set cutting tools, inserts, drills, taps, reamers, end mills and other machining tools.
- Set and maintain proper cutting parameters such as RPM, feed and depth of cut.
- Make necessary tool wear and dimensional offsets during production.
- Produce first-off components and coordinate with Quality for first-piece inspection and approval.
- Monitor component dimensions during production and take corrective action when required.
- Identify and resolve common machining problems such as:
- Dimensional variation
- Tool wear
- Tool breakage
- Burr formation
- Poor surface finish
- Chatter/vibration
- Incorrect offsets
- Fixture-related issues
- Ensure components are produced within specified tolerances and surface-finish requirements.
- Minimize cycle time,
tool consumption, rejection and machine downtime.
- Maintain proper tool life and offset records.
- Perform routine machine checks and report abnormalities to the concerned supervisor/maintenance team.
- Ensure proper loading, unloading and identification of raw materials and finished components.
- Maintain machine cleanliness and follow 5S practices.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE.
- Maintain production records and shift-related documentation.
- Support continuous improvement activities for productivity, quality and cost reduction.
1. Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of CNC/VMC machine setting.
- Good knowledge of Fanuc / Mitsubishi / Siemens controls or equivalent.
- Good understanding of G-code and M-code.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T; and machining tolerances.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts and tool selection.
- Knowledge of cutting speeds, feeds and machining parameters.
- Good understanding of work offsets and tool offsets.
- Knowledge of fixture setting and workholding methods.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot machining defects.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier Caliper
- Outside Micrometer
- Bore Gauge
- Height Gauge
- Depth Gauge
- Dial Gauge
- Thread Gauges
- Basic understanding of CNC/VMC preventive maintenance is preferred.
1. Educational Qualification
ITI / Diploma – Mechanical / Production / Tool & Die / Machining or equivalent.
1. Experience
3–8 years of relevant experience in CNC/VMC machining and setting. Candidates with experience in precision components, automotive, engineering or job-work manufacturing will be preferred.

1. Safety & Quality Responsibility
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Never bypass machine safety/interlock systems.
- Ensure proper clamping and fixture safety before machining.
- Verify first-off components before batch production.
- Stop the machine and inform the supervisor/Quality team if abnormal conditions or quality deviations are observed.
- Maintain proper identification and traceability of components.
1. Overall Responsibility
The CNC/VMC Setter is responsible for safe machine setup, accurate component production, efficient machining, tool management, dimensional control and achieving the required production targets with minimum rejection and downtime. Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
