We are hiring for Construction Accountant openings supporting US Real Estate / Development and Construction Accounting operations. This is an individual contributor (IC) role for experienced professionals who support the Development Accounting Manager in providing accounting services and reporting support to development and construction stakeholders, maintaining development data and ensuring accuracy and consistency in reporting and recognition for an assigned portfolio of pre-development, land, and construction/development projects.
Essential Duties
Review the general ledger monthly and quarterly to ensure proper GAAP recording of income, expense, and balance sheet items for all acquisitions, land, and construction/development projects.
Complete the construction/development accounting close for the development pipeline, buildings under construction, and land held for development.
Act as an accounting liaison to regional development and construction managers, providing assistance and training as needed.
Prepare and/or review monthly construction, development, and land loan draws, and attend draw meetings.
Work with development and construction managers to ensure projections of final costs and yields are accurately reflected.
Set up pre-development and construction/development project jobs and monitor related budgets.
Review lease and contractor documents to ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate input into the accounting system.
Review and approve invoices related to construction, development, land, and pre-development projects for proper approvals and reasonableness, exercising sound judgment on capitalization versus expense treatment.
Ensure that proper approvals are obtained for all budgets, draws, and contractor requisitions for pre-development, land, and construction/development projects.
Review and maintain data in the Land/Development/Construction information database, ensuring data is updated accurately and timely.
Work with the manager to prepare variance analysis for all development and construction information stakeholders.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, with the primary goal of providing accurate construction and development pipeline information to development managers, capital markets, asset management, FP&A;, treasury, and fund management.
Work with outsourced accounting resources, providing training, mentorship, and guidance as necessary.
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Key Requirements
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, in public accounting, real estate, or construction general ledger accounting.
Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (B.Com/M.Com/MBA-Finance) required.
Robust command of construction and development accounting fundamentals, including job cost accounting, draw preparation, budget monitoring, and capitalization versus expense determinations.
Proven ability to review income statements and balance sheets to identify risks and issues, and to clearly summarize the drivers of financial statement fluxes.
Yardi experience, specifically the job cost module, a plus; working knowledge of other ERP systems such as JDE, MRI, Oracle, or SAP also valued.
Prior experience working with outsourced accounting resources, including training and mentorship.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with US-based stakeholders, development managers, and capital markets, asset management, FP&A;, and treasury teams.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, a proven ability to meet deadlines, and a demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Self-starter who can also function effectively as part of a team, with the flexibility to take on ad hoc projects and special assignments as needed.
Strong Excel skills.
Willingness to work in US Shift hours, starting at 5:00 PM IST / 6:00 PM IST.
