Job Brief
We are seeking an experienced and safety-driven Steel Coil Warehouse Supervisor to daily operations at our steel storage and distribution facility.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of material handlers, overhead crane operators, and heavy truck drivers. Your primary objective will be to ensure the safe, efficient, and damage-free receiving, storage, processing, and dispatching of heavy gauge steel coils. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, a deep commitment to heavy-industrial safety standards, and sharp logistics acumen.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Material Handling
- Daily receiving and shipping of heavy steel coils via flatbeds, railcars, or containers.
- Supervise safe rigging, lifting, and stacking configurations to maximize space and prevent product deformation.
- Coordinate processing queues for slitting, blanking, or cut-to-length lines if applicable.
- Inspect inbound coils for quality, gauge accuracy, transit damage, or rust, and document discrepancies immediately.
Team Leadership & Safety Enforcement
- Enforce strict OSHA / local safety standards, focusing heavily on overhead crane safety, proper rigging techniques, and pedestrian safety zones.
- Conduct mandatory daily toolbox talks and routine safety audits.
- Schedule, assign, and balance workloads for crane operators, forklift drivers, and inventory clerks.
- Train and onboard recent personnel on heavy machinery, safe stacking heights, and emergency response procedures.
Inventory & Systems Management
- Maintain 100% inventory accuracy using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) to track coil heat numbers, weights, and slit widths.
- Direct routine cycle counts and reconcile physical inventory against system data.
- Ensure all outgoing shipments are properly blocked, braced, and chained according to transport regulations before release.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of warehouse experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role within a steel service center, metals distribution, or heavy industrial environment.
- Equipment Knowledge: Strong familiarity with overhead bridge cranes, and coil storage racking/chocks.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with barcode scanning systems, ERP/WMS software, and Microsoft Office (Excel). Excellent capability tracking material certifications and mill test reports (MTRs).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
